Emerging 2026 EDGE Anthony Jones details Michigan offer, attending the Rose Bowl game, more
Michigan’s historic three-year run this decade, plus Jim Harbaugh‘s entire reign as head coach, has churned out fandom from rising high school talent nationwide, including 2026 Irvine (Calif) Crean Lutheran EDGE Anthony Jones.
“I was actually a Michigan fan,” Jones told The Wolverine. “Jabrill Peppers was one of my favorite players growing up. So, when I see Michigan play, I always get intrigued to watch. I actually watch Aidan Hutchinson, and I take a lot from his game. I kind of use it as my own.”
The intrigue was boosted several notches when Jones was extended an offer.
“They were always one of my dream schools,” Jones said. “Always watched them growing up. So, being able to receive an offer to one day probably play for that program is nice.”
While Jones has yet to visit Ann Arbor, he’s seen Michigan live. It occurred this past January when he attended the Rose Bowl and saw the Wolverines take down Alabama to advance to the national championship.
“It was really that defense,” Jones said. “I actually got to see that defensive line play in person against Alabama. Man, it was something.”
The memory of the College Football Playoff semifinal game five months before receiving an offer gave Jones the image that he could yield the same opportunity in a few years.
“It was a dream, man,” Jones said. “I’d never been to a Rose Bowl game, so being able to go for the first time and maybe one day be on the field was great.”
Jones’ offer was publicly reported earlier this month after he spoke with new Michigan linebackers coach Brian Jean-Mary on the phone.
“It was a great conversation,” Jones said. “He seemed like he really wanted me to get out to Ann Arbor. He was very interested in me, and he really wants me there. You can tell that he’s a high-energy guy.
“He told me that he just wants me to get to that quarterback. That’s something he kept repeating.”
Jones said a first visit to Michigan could come as early as this summer.
“I really want to build a relationship with the coaches in the program,” Jones said. “Maybe if they’re practicing around that time, check out a practice or two. See how they really run their program during practice and the offseason.”
At 6-foot-4, 215 pounds, Jones is listed as the No. 341 overall prospect and No. 23 EDGE in the country, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four primary recruiting media services. He’s also the No. 38 player in California.
Along with Michigan, Jones holds notable offers from Ohio State, Penn State, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Washington, Ole Miss, Georgia, Auburn, Cal, Arizona, and others.
