FSU Spring Recruiting Hot Board: Breaking down the top defensive tackles

With FSU spring football now in the rear view and the transfer portal not exactly heating up, it’s a good time to take a closer look at where things stand for the Seminoles in high school recruiting.
The ‘Noles are coming off a top-10 class in the 2024 cycle, and they are already off and running for 2025. Over the next couple of weeks, we will break down FSU’s top targets and commits at each position, and look at where the Seminoles need to make big moves.
We continue today with defensive tackle, which is going to be a key focus for Florida State in the 2025 class.

DEFENSIVE TACKLE (FSU EXPECTED TO TAKE 2-3)
Five-star Plus DL Justus Terry (USC commit)
The Skinny on Terry & FSU
Terry has been quite interested in Florida State for a few years now. He visited FSU once again in the spring and is planning to visit the Seminoles officially later this summer. Terry did make a surprise commitment to Southern Cal after taking a visit there this spring. However, the intel suggests this is a recruitment that is very much still in the early stages with Terry not closing the door to any school.
Georgia probably has the best chance of changing his mind since that was the school thought to be leading before his commitment to the Trojans. However, Florida State is believed to be a legit contender as well. Justus has very strong feelings for FSU, and he has great respect for position coach Odell Haggins. Another factor helping the ‘Noles is the fact that they have consistently produced great defensive lines. Alabama, Ohio State and LSU are the schools I hear next after USC, Georgia and FSU. The ‘Noles are scheduled to get their official visit June 14, but we’ve heard they’d like to get him to move it one week later for their huge official visit weekend.
Four-star DL Myron Charles
The Skinny on Charles & FSU
With Charles, Florida State has been the school that has recruited the four-star defensive tackle the hardest. He has camped at FSU, and been there for several unofficial visits, and that has put the ‘Noles in a very good spot as Charles gets set to take some official visits. From talking with people close to Charles’ recruitment, Haggins and Florida State coach Mike Norvell have done a great job of building a close bond here, and I believe the Seminoles will eventually win out.
In fact, I would not be surprised if you see a commitment from Charles in the summer because I feel he’s close to pulling the trigger. This still continues to be an in-state battle, however, with Miami and Florida being the other schools in the mix. Texas and Texas A&M are trying to move their way into the picture, but I still love FSU’s spot here.
Four-star DL Kevin Wynn (Chad Simmons/On3)
Four-star DL Kevin Wynn
The Skinny on Wynn & FSU
This is another one where despite some strong interest from Georgia, Florida and others, I like where FSU sits. Wynn has been to FSU a lot, and there’s a strong tie with his father favoring the Seminoles from the start. Wynn also loves the development he sees from Florida State defensive linemen. And he says there is a special connection he feels when he’s on the FSU campus compared to others.
Now, it’s not a done deal by any stretch. Especially with Georgia trying to make a strong push this spring after getting him on campus. He also visited Florida, and the Gators made an impression. But FSU has been at the forefront throughout, and I haven’t seen anyone match that feeling for him. The entire Wynn family feels a strong connection to FSU and Tallahassee, so there are more factors than just the football side of things here. Wynn is set to officially visit Georgia, South Carolina, Texas and Florida State. The ‘Noles will have him in for the big June 21 weekend, and I believe FSU will put a huge push to land Wynn on that trip.
Four-star DL Jarquez Carter
The Skinny on Carter & FSU
While I don’t believe Carter has stated that he has the Gators No. 1, this could be a hard pull for FSU since UF is close to home and he has visited there several times. I do believe that the ‘Noles have worked hard to be a factor in this recruitment, however. Carter loves Haggins, and he has been working with him at FSU summer camps for several years. The Newberry product visited Florida State again in the spring and will take an official visit to Tallahassee as well.
That official visit likely will happen on the June 21 weekend, from what I’ve heard. Along with UF and FSU, I believe Notre Dame, Ohio State, Central Florida, Miami and Penn State are also in the mix. So there’s still a long ways to go with this one, as Carter isn’t in a hurry to decide.
