Marvel blames Agatha for WandaVision spinoff's name changes as they reveal release date
After multiple name changes — from Agatha: House of Harkness to Agatha: Coven of Chaos, then Agathan: Darkhold Diaries and, if Marvel’s teaser image is to be believed, Agatha: The Lying Witch with the Wardrobe (somewhere, C.S. Lewis is crying at the pun) — Marvel Studios has finally settled on a name for it’s WandaVision spin-off. And what do you know, it’s Agatha All Along.
The new title — named after the catchy theme song that revealed the true identity of Kathryn Hahn’s villain from the WandaVision miniseries back in 2021 — brings to an end a long-running identity crisis for the show, originally announced back in November 2021 with the House of Darkness subtitle, only to be renamed as Coven of Chaos in July the following year, with a September 2023 rebrand as Darkhold Diaries. A report around the same time suggested that the shifting title was an intentional move on Marvel’s part, as opposed to uncertainty over what to call the show — a suggestion potentially borne out by the final choice of title.
The show will see Hahn return as Agatha Harkness, alongside a number of WandaVision alums, including Emma Caulfield Ford, David Payton, David Lengel, and Debra Jo Rupp; additionally, Kate Forbes will once again play Agatha’s mother, Evanora. The series is created by Jac Schaeffer, who serves as head writer and will direct a number of episodes alongside Gandja Monteiro and Rachel Goldberg.
