George Clooney & Brad Pitt Share How They’ve Leaned on Each Other During 'Complicated' Stages of Life
Looking from the outside, George Clooney and Brad Pitt have a lot in common. From their decades as movie stars to their heartthrob status, these two industry veterans have personal lives and careers that even mirror one another. But are they actually friends?
In a new interview with GQ, Clooney and Pitt, who star in the upcoming Apple TV+ movie Wolfs, got candid about their friendship, which clearly goes far beyond movie sets.
“We’ve been friends for a long time,” Clooney told the outlet. “And it’s fun because we also check in on each other every once in a while, which is an important part of this. Things get complicated in life and you always have to make sure everybody’s okay.”
While Clooney didn’t detail what “complicated” things he’s referring to, it’s easy to make a calculated guess. In addition to the natural ups and downs of any career, Pitt’s been in a tumultuous divorce from ex-wife Angelina Jolie since 2016.
Luckily, Pitt has always had Clooney to lean on. “George is probably the best at understanding, seeing the chessboard and the potential moves,” he said of the dad of two (7-year-old twins Ella and Alexander). “I’ll call George on numerous occasions when things get bumpy.”

But in addition to having their movie careers to bond and get advice on, Pitt and Clooney have one similar qualm: the price of fame. For Pitt, being as famous as they are can be compared to being a gazelle hunted in the wild.
“The gazelle thing, just being cut off from the herd,” Pitt explained. “George is going to understand something that no one else is going to understand, that we don’t even have to speak about. There’s a comfort in that. There’s another smaller tribe that erupts from that because of the pressures and the struggles that one will have in their own life.”
“When [Wolfs] came up I thought, Ah man, I’ve known this guy since the ’90s and been through so much life at this point and so many twists and curves and turns and there’s something just, I don’t know, I felt there was something really lovely just that we could do something shoulder to shoulder,” Pitt said of Clooney.
“It can be scary until you find your footing through the field, I guess,” Pitt continued. “But that’s why there’s a real comfort. I know he’s got my back. I got his back.” Talk about friendship goals!
Clooney, of course, shared similar sentiments about Pitt, noting that working with him was even more seamless than he expected. “There’s a very interesting thing that happens when you’ve been working together a long time where I don’t have to be looking even near him to know what he’s doing and have some idea of what’s going on,” Clooney said. “And there’s a great ease to that and confidence where you just go, ‘Oh yeah, I know what he’s going to do.'”
