Texas’ tight end recruiting in the 2025 class
After losing Ja’Tavion Sanders to the 2024 NFL Draft, the tight end room in Austin needs reinforcements. The Horns want at least two in the 2025 cycle, with Emaree Winston already in the boat. Here’s the latest on TE recruiting and where the Horns stand.
Kiotti Armstrong, Jasper (Texas)
If there’s one prospect Texas has been building a steady relationship with, it’s the multi-sport star from Jasper. Armstrong is an imposing prospect that already resembles a college-ready athlete.
He has an incredibly busy June ahead. He has officials coming up, starting with Baylor (June 7th-9th), then Auburn (June 12th-14th), Texas A&M (June 14th-16th), LSU (June 19-21), and finishes in Austin with Texas (June 21st-23rd). He’d also like to spend time at Alabama, FSU, and Ole Miss during the fall season.
That portends to a fall decision timeline. No matter how many places he goes, this’ll likely come down to Texas-Texas A&M. There’s a sense he wants to stay closer to home, and ultimately sources around Jasper agree.
He’s either smashing helmets, catching touchdowns on the gridiron, or he’s squaring up fastballs on the diamond, Armstrong’s athletic upside is the highest in the room.
Texas has really put themselves in a great position in this recruitment. From Jeff Banks, Steve Sarkisian, tight end usage, or former Jasper teammate Tyanthony Smith holding it down in Austin, Texas has some quiet momentum here as we head into OV season.
Nick Townsend, Spring (Texas) Dekaney
Pound-for-pound, the most talented football player of the group. He’s a high Division I talent on offense and defense. At 6-foot-3.5, 225 pounds, Townsend has one of the strongest handshakes from the 2025 crop and has Texas, Alabama, and Texas A&M all on his mind.
Townsend could be an excellent tight end or EDGE at the next level. That versatility is one reason he holds 35 offers including Michigan, Notre Dame, USC, Florida, LSU, and Oklahoma.
He recently discussed his upcoming official visits with IT’s Eric Nahlin, He’s set to see Texas, Alabama, USC, and Texas A&M over the next month for OVs.
Texas A&M has some confidence on its side, but this might come down to Texas and Alabama. After running a 10.92 100 at 235 pounds, it’s easy to see why he’s one of the most coveted prospects in 2025.
Kaleb Edwards, El Dorado Hills (Calif.) Oak Ridge
One of the more unknowns in the 2025 cycle for Texas, Edwards is still getting closer to the Longhorns and the 6-foot-6, 250-pounder will take an official visit to Austin in early June.
Edwards has six programs in the mix; Texas, Alabama, Auburn, Oregon, UCLA, and Washington. He already took his UCLA OV on May 10th-12th, he’ll see Washington next on May 31st, then Austin on June 7th, Auburn on June 11th, and Alabama on June 17th. He’ll finish in Eugene with the Ducks on June 21.
He’s likes that Banks and Steve Sarkisian are from California and how the staff is hitting the West Coast. His fit in the UT offense is alluring and he’s a a fan of the City of Austin. He’s looking at a decision in July.
Linkon Cure, Goodland (Kan.)
The 6-foot-4.5, 210-pound five-star and No. 2 rated tight end in the 2025 class might end up at Kansas State. You read that right.
He has family ties to the K-State family and would love to stay home. But Texas, Oregon, and Texas A&M are among the schools interested in the multi-sport talent. New A&M OC Colin Klein will likely have a say before it’s all said and done.
He took an unofficial visit to Texas this Spring and connected with Jeff Banks and the Texas staff. Until he returns to Austin, this is likely going in a different direction.
