“NC State defensive end Red Hibbler (@jykeveous) plans to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal, his agents Adie von Gontard and Noah Reisenfeld of Young Money APAA Sports tell ESPN,” Thamel tweeted. “Hibbler led NC State in sacks last season with 6.5. He’ll have one year of eligibility remaining.”
Hibbler was no longer listed on NC State’s roster just over a week ago. A spokesperson then confirmed that he wasn’t part of the team anymore with no reasoning provided.

While with the Wolfpack, Hibbler posted 19 tackles, 6.5 sacks, a pair of forced fumbles a deflection on their defense. That included a team lead for sacks last fall with 6.5. In four appearances this year, he had six tackles.
Prior to coming to Raleigh, Hibbler was a transfer in from Northwest Mississippi Community College. He played in 30 games there with 73 tackles, 15 sacks, and four forced fumbles with a pair of recoveries with one that went for a touchdown.
He is a native of Louisville, Mississippi, which is about an hour and a half northeast of the capital in Jackson.
With him reportedly planning to transfer, one team could be getting a productive pass-rusher for a year in Hibbler.
Hibbler reportedly plans to enter transfer portal
NC State removed Red Hibbler from its online roster following the Wolfpack’s loss to Clemson earlier this fall. He now plans to redshirt and enter the transfer portal in December, ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported.
Hibbler is the one and only Wolfpack football player to shut down their season after four games played so far this year. Jordan Houston and MJ Morris made similar decisions back in 2023
In the Wolfpack’s first game without Hibbler, Davin Vann and Isaiah Shirley started at defensive end with Travali Price and Noah Potter taking the backup reps. NC State recorded 4 sacks against Northern Illinois, doubling its season total, and 12 tackles for loss.
