Who is Christopher Gilbert?
Christopher Gilbert, 26, is an aspiring doctor, who is currently recovering from a near-fatal accident.
The promising medical student was placed on life support for 72 hours and needed a ventilator.
He had just received his master’s last year and was looking forward to helping others using the skills he’s learnt.
His mother, Yolanda George, was devasted after hearing the news and demanded to know why no one had been arrested since the incident.
She told Fox8: “I was devastated, I felt like my life had ended in a moment.
“My son is so sweet, the most selfless being you’ll ever meet, I was in a terrible state.”
What happened to Christopher Gilbert?
Christopher was out with his friends when they allegedly pushed him into a lake on April 14.
The friends claimed that they didn’t know he couldn’t swim.
However, Yolanda told KSLA that everyone knew Christopher couldn’t swim.
The group failed to get Christopher out and he spent around ten minutes underwater.

Luckily, Dawson Foust, who was at the restaurant next to the lake, rushed to the scene and pulled him out to make the rescue.
Exactly what happened leading to the medical student nearly drowning remains unclear.
His friends initially told his mother that he had fallen in but allegedly switched up their story and admitted to pushing him in during “horseplay”, the Post claims.
Christopher’s family believe the cops are letting the friends slide because they’re white and their son is black.
Claudia Payne, family attorney, said: “Had Chris, a black male, pushed a white female into a lake, he would be arrested.
“I’ve defended alleged criminals with less evidence that they’ve made arrests on.”
Once the aspiring doctor made it to the hospital, Doctors described him as practically “brain dead” and he was hooked up to a ventilator.
Will Christopher Gilbert make a recovery?
Most incidents where people spend more than ten minutes underwater usually end in disaster – but that wasn’t the case for Christopher.
It took Christopher less than a month to start speaking and eating after the doctors had put him on a life support machine.
He is currently still in hospital, where he is working on memory loss problems and physical recuperation.
However, the 26-year-old did suffer significant brain damage.
No arrests have been made, but activists are demanding justice and answers.
Christopher’s family are also planning to sue the restaurant for not keeping Chris safe as a patron of the establishment, according to KSLA.
