Hollywood star almost went broke waiting for $1,500,000,000 blockbuster film release

Glen Powell has opened up about his journey in Hollywood, revealing he almost ran out of money waiting for his biggest blockbuster to hit our screens.
Over the last few years, the 35-year-old has proved his range in some hugely popular movies and TV shows, including the romantic lead in Set It Up and Anyone But You, and the douchey frat boy in Scream Queens.
But it was his turn as Lieutenant Jake ‘Hangman’ Seresin in Top Gun: Maverick, opposite Tom Cruise and Miles Teller, that catapulted him to a new level of fame.
The 2022 flick made almost $1.5billion at the global box office, and was hailed as the driving force behind getting people back to the cinema after the global pandemic, as Tom famously refused to let it drop on a streamer without a theatrical release.
However, unpacking the role in a new interview – to promote his upcoming movie, Hit Man – he explained that he was running out of money while waiting two years for the premiere.
‘I’d never made any significant amount of money on a movie, including Top Gun, and I was depleting a bank account to a point where my accountant was like, “This pandemic cannot last much longer,”’ he told the Hollywood Reporter.
‘But Tom was already Tom; I was waiting for my life to change.’
Glen initially went in for the role of Goose’s son, Rooster, which eventually went to Miles – and he wasn’t that convinced by the Hangman character, before sitting down with Tom and making changes.
‘I wanted him to be reminiscent of [Iceman] Val Kilmer – a guy who was having fun saving the day,’ he continued. ‘But I read the script, and I didn’t like this guy.’
After some words of encouragement from his co-star, he set about ‘crafting’ Hangman into someone that he wanted to play, and has never looked back.

Thanks to the enormous success of Maverick, and that incredible box office return, we’ll be getting our hands on a Top Gun 3 at some point.
Although it’s unclear who will be joining Tom on the fighter pilot’s next adventure, Glen is clearly relishing the idea of getting back into the cockpit.
‘It’s out of my hands,’ he previously told E! News. ‘There are smarter people involved in this movie, than I can come up with. But whatever it is, I know we’re going to be flying cool stuff, that’s all I know.

‘It’s really nice when you make a movie that people want to see more, that’s been honestly the really cool part about this.
‘You make a movie with people you really love, that you really connect with, and then maybe you get the chance to do it again. So we’ll see.’
