Ahead of this weekend’s Budweiser Dairyland Super Nationals, a fan engagement site has introduced a real-money, peer-to-peer sports gaming app for fans of tractor pulling.
The launch of Full Pull Picks marks the debut of the first dedicated sports gaming app for tractor pulling, a 75-year-old sport dubbed as the “world’s heaviest motorsport.” Crafted by Full Pull Entertainment, the app will offer pick contests for tractor pulling, starting with this weekend’s Super Nationals in Tomah, Wisconsin. For the season, Full Pull will broadcast 32 sessions from the National Tractor Pullers Association (NTPA) and Outlaw Truck and Tractor Pulling events, culminating in the Enderle Memorial Pull-Off on Sept. 14.
“Full Pull’s mission is to enhance the fan experience and grow the sport of truck and tractor pulling among existing and new audiences,” said Chase Richardson, co-founder and CEO of Full Pull Entertainment. “We think truck and tractor pulling is the most thrilling motorsport in this country. We know that real-money gaming enthusiasts will soon become fans as well.”
The Rules
During a soft launch at last week’s Power Pull Nationals in Minnesota, Full Pull offered more than a dozen pick contests. The contests included disciplines in Super Stock Diesel, Mini Rod, Four-Wheel Drive, Modified, Super Semi, and others. There are four contests available for Thursday night’s opening session, headlined by a $3,000 pool in modified pulling.
In comparison with other top motorsports, tractor pulling offers a unique set of objectives. Drivers do not aim to attain a top-end speed, but focus instead on achieving the longest distance pulled.
Drivers operate a vehicle that is attached to a metal sled and traverse an area that is a minimum of 30 feet in width by 320 feet in length. Since the vehicles require significant horsepower and torque, the engines are modified to help the drivers attain an optimal pull. In many ways, the chess game is won by the engine developers before the drivers enter their vehicles.
Entrants in the Hot Rod Semi classification, the highest weight class in the sport, boast vehicles that weigh around 20,000 pounds. Smaller vehicles, such as Super Modified Tractors, may contain Allison V12 aircraft engines with enough output to produce 10,000 in horsepower. In a YouTube compilation of modified tractor pulling, a user remarked that tractors, not the RX-7 sports car, produce the best turbo audio.
By pulling a heavy load, a vehicle will eventually lose momentum and come to a full stop within seconds. At last week’s event in Minnesota, Colin Ross won the Diesel Super Stock on Triple Bypass when his truck traveled 334.4 feet.
Drivers also have a flair for coining creative names. In fact, Ross defeated a field that included Bone Twister, The Intimidator, and Diggin’ Hard.
Wagering Available in Alaska, Utah
In rare cases, a vehicle might reach the end of a course, completing a successful trek known as a “full pull.” If two or more drivers complete a full pull in a given event, they face off for a medal in a subsequent “pull off.” Last week, Ross defeated Steve Blagrave on Red Horse by more than 20 feet.
Full Pull Picks is based on a peer-to-peer, player-adjusted payout system, where all entries are placed together in a pool. Entrants are required to select two drivers from the field, drivers whose odds vary based on their win probability. In Thursday’s modified event, the favorite — Dirtslinger — has odds of 2.20x. Money Pit, the longest shot on the board, has steeper odds at 42.00x. Entrants should not sleep on Les Korporal’s eponymous Korporal Punishment at 5.00x.
Entrants will win prizes based on the total combined distance pulled. Prize amounts are determined by the available player-adjusted payout pools. According to contest rules, prizes will be awarded to entrants if both of their drivers finish among the top three in a given event.
Full Pull Picks will be available to entrants in more than 15 states, including: North Carolina, Rhode Island, and Oregon. While the majority of the states are located in the Midwest, several jurisdictions do not offer legal sports betting at the moment.
The contest will also be available for fans in California, Texas, Utah, and Alaska. The latter two are notable in that those states are nowhere close to legalizing sports betting.
