The incident became public when the school's principal, Monica Sample, sent a letter to parents and students, alerting them to the situation and detailing the immediate response by school administration and resource officers, as reported by WBAL-TV.
The student was identified following a tip regarding the handgun. The school's resource officers then located and searched the student, which resulted in the recovery of the loaded weapon.
