Ranking Florida’s 2025 recruiting class so far
As the Florida Gators enter official visit season, they have five commitments and the No. 21 class ranking from On3. The first number tells us Florida has lots of work ahead to fill out the class. The second illustrates that at least as of today this group doesn’t have as much star power as we’re all used to seeing.
On both of those points, it is important to remember this: It’s still early in the cycle. Real early.
It wasn’t until June of last year that the previous Gators recruiting class started to take shape.
Below, I’ve ranked Florida’s current commitments from 1 through 5 by combining my own evaluations with what I believe to be each player’s importance/value to the class. These rankings are one man’s opinion and are strictly for fun. We will update this list as Florida’s 2025 class continues to grow.
Okay, lets get started …
1. Jalen Wiggins, Edge, Tallahassee (Fla.) Rickards (The Florida Gators’ lone top-100 commit)
Wiggins, listed at 6-foot-5 and 235 pounds is the highest-ranked Florida Gators commitment in the On3 Industry Rankings (No. 91) — and the highest on my list. He’s graded by most sites as a defensive lineman but the Gators are recruiting him at edge — and that is a major position of need. Not only is Wiggins talented. Not only does he have a great frame. But he’s an excellent student with a high football IQ. Florida will have to hold off Notre Dame and FSU to keep him in the class, but when you look at what Wiggins brings to the table he’s the clear-cut No. 1 on my list.
2. Waltez Clark, RB, Tampa (Fla.) Plant
Clark is a 4-star in the On3 Industry Rankings, but only a 3-star with On3. I wouldn’t be surprised if he rises this fall. A lingering ankle issue limited his playing time and effectiveness last season. Now, though, Clark is fully healthy and he’s a true game-breaker. On the track, he recently ran the 100 meters in 10.77 seconds and that speed translates to the field. He can take any play to the house. Also of note, Clark is very good at catching the ball out of the backfield. He’ll be able to do a lot for the Florida Gators.
3. Josiah Abdullah, WR, College Park (Ga.) Woodward Academy
I seem to be higher on Abdullah than the respective ranking teams throughout the industry. He’s a high 3-star in the On3 Industry but might have 4-star potential. Abdullah, at 5-10, 175 pounds, isn’t that big, but he’s a true big-play threat (something the Florida Gators need more of), is difficult to tackle in space and is surprisingly physical. He had 52 catches for 786 yards and 10 touchdowns last season and those numbers probably will go up in 2024.
4. Jeramiah McCloud, DL, Havana (Fla.) Gadsden County
McCloud, who committed to the Florida Gators a few weeks ago, is reasonably productive on Friday nights. Last season, he totaled 55 tackles, 14 tackles for loss and 12 sacks. He’s both physical and aggressive at the point of attack. He’s fast off the ball and often quickly gets opposing offensive linemen on their back foot. Better technique and use of his hands should help get his game to the next level. If he dominates in 2024, he could move up our list.
5. Chad Gasper, RB, Fulshear (Texas) Katy Jordan
Simply put, his stats don’t blow you away. In fact, Gasper has carried the ball 302 times for 1,463 yards on the varsity squad in three seasons. That’s an average of 4.8 yards a carry. And his longest rush in high school is only 55 yards. So he hasn’t dominated. But in fairness, Gasper plays in a pass-first offense with an offensive line built to throw — not run. His entire team had only 1,321 rushing yards in 2024. He’s a tough runner, with good acceleration and he can catch the football. That said, you’d like to see him raise that average and produce more long runs.
