Check out Primal Scream’s brooding new single ‘Deep Dark Waters’

Primal Scream have shared a new single called ‘Deep Dark Waters’ – you can listen to it below.

The brooding track is the second preview of the band’s 12th studio album ‘Come Ahead’ (their first full-length project in eight years), which will be released on November 8 via BMG (pre-order here).
Frontman Bobby Gillespie delivers a cautionary tale on the song, warning that “all systems are failing” as the ship veers far off course. “We go like cattle to the slaughter/ To the slaughter,” he adds.
Elsewhere, Gillespie refers to “echoes from the past” and “fear[s] the worst shall surely find us“.
Per a press release, ‘Deep Dark Water reflects “the dark undercurrent of our times” but offers hope that “there is still time to change course”. The sinister feel of the single is juxtaposed with a smattering of light flamenco guitars.

Speaking about the track, Gillespie explained: “‘Deep Dark Waters’ is influenced by the writings of Franco ‘Bifo’ Berardi. It contains a warning from history. ‘Those who do not learn from the past are condemned to repeat it’.”
The technicolour official music video for the song was directed by renowned filmmaker and director Douglas Hart, whose connections with Gillespie go back to The Jesus And Mary Chain.
Hart played drums in the band and contributed to their 1985 debut album, ‘Psychocandy’. He has also made videos with Primal Scream since 1991. Watch the ‘Deep Dark Waters’ visuals above.
Primal Scream announced the forthcoming ‘Come Ahead’ last month with lead single ‘Love Insurrection’. The record will follow on from the group’s 2016 full-length effort ‘Chaosmosis’.

In a previous statement about the new project, Gillespie said: “I’m very excited about this album in a way that you would be making your first record. If there was an overall theme to ‘Come Ahead’ it might be one of conflict, whether inner or outer.
“There is also a thread of compassion running through the album. The title is a Glaswegian term. If someone threatens to fight you, you say, ‘Come ahead!’ Its redolent of the indomitable spirit of the Glaswegian, and the album itself shares that aggressive attitude and confidence. They have a word for this up there, gallus. ‘Come Ahead’ is quite a cheeky title too.”
The ‘Come Ahead’ tracklist is:

1. ‘Ready To Go Home’
2. ‘Love Insurrection’
3. ‘Heal Yourself’
4. ‘Innocent Money’
5. ‘Melancholy Man’
6. ‘Love Ain’t Enough’
7. ‘Circus Of Life’
8. ‘False Flags’
9. ‘Deep Dark Waters’
10. ‘The Centre Cannot Hold’

11. ‘Settler’s Blues’
Primal Scream are set to play their first live shows of 2024 when they support Alice Cooper on his UK arena tour this autumn.
Additionally, Gillespie and co. will play a huge festival slot at Corona Capital in Mexico City in November. They’ll then open for Pulp at a huge new festival in Japan early next year.
