FSU’s Huge Recruiting Weekend: Three key storylines on defense
The FSU football staff is hosting a huge recruiting weekend with around 20 prospects on campus for official visits, and there are three key storylines to follow on offense and defense.
On defense, the Seminoles are trying to make moves with a pair of elite defensive tackles, they’re hoping to cash in on several defenders they have been trending for, and they’d like to lock down a key defensive end commitment.
Here is a primer for what to look for on that side of the ball this weekend:

All eyes on two major DTs
Of all the defensive prospects at Florida State this weekend, most eyes will be on four-star defensive tackle standouts Myron Charles and Kevin Wynn. The intel coming into this weekend was that the Seminoles still sat in a solid spot for Charles, who also scheduled visits to Miami, Florida and Texas. Although the Gators have long been seen as the biggest competition for the ‘Noles, Miami made a good impression on his visit there in June. With that said, we continue to hear the connection with FSU defensive tackles coach Odell Haggins really stands out here, along with his reputation for development. And while there is no timetable set yet for a decision, I could see this wrapping up if Charles loves this visit and hits it off with FSU’s current players.
The Wynn recruitment might be a little more complex, though, as Georgia has made a solid surge to close the gap. FSU has done a good job with the relationships here, but the feeling is the ‘Noles will have to put together a really good visit to keep the Bulldogs at bay, per sources close to this recruitment. If there is a dark horse in this race, it would be Texas after the Longhorns made a big impression during Wynn’s trip to Austin. Still, I feel this one likely comes down to FSU and Georgia, and we’ll see if the ‘Noles can recapture that unique feeling on his official visit this weekend.
Can FSU close on top targets?
This is a huge opportunity for the Seminoles this weekend with several targets trending in FSU’s direction. Several that we are keeping a close eye on include four-star DB Gregory Thomas, four-star LB Tavion Wallace and three-star DB Shamar Arnoux, all of whom I feel FSU has the edge for heading into this crucial weekend. Thomas has long been considered a lean for the ‘Noles because of several connections to the FSU program, including secondary caoch Patrick Surtain Sr. and his overall feel anytime he’s on the FSU campus.
Then there is top LB target Wallace, who the Gators have made a surge with recently but I still feel good about for the Seminoles. There’s a genuine personal connection between Wallace at the FSU staff that is different from other schools, according to sources. Still, the Seminoles understand they have to finish the job, and I’m hearing this visit will be slightly unique to really make a big impression.
Lastly there is Arnoux, who was outstanding at the FSU Elite Camp, and there is some sustainable momentum for the Seminoles with the former Tennessee commitment. The development of players under Surtain really jumps out to Arnoux, as does the versatility displayed by the FSU secondary.

Locking down Hilson; Can FSU seize momentum?
Cocoa four-star defensive end Javion Hilson hasn’t given off any warning signs that he doesn’t plan on signing with FSU, but the Seminoles know they are in a fight still with Hilson taking official visits to Florida, UCF and Texas as of late. I believe UCF and Texas are likely the biggest threats, per people close to this recruitment. With that said, most seem to think the ‘Noles will win out in the end, and getting this last visit is obviously a good sign.
Hilson has loved FSU for a long time, and he also is very impressed by the production of the Seminoles’ defensive ends. Still, the ‘Noles need to put an exclamation point on his recruitment this weekend. Getting Hilson to shut down his recruitment would be massive for FSU and this 2025 class.
Finally, there’s no denying that the Seminoles could use some momentum on the recruiting trail, and the best way to do that would be with one or two public commitments. The ‘Noles have been trending with a number of prospects recently, but it would send a positive message to other recruits to have commitments to back that up.
I personally think FSU gets some of the momentum the ‘Noles are looking for this weekend. We will see if that gut feeling comes to fruition.
