“The Man Marked by Flames is a former Elder”: Eiichiro Oda Might Have Foreshadowed the Most Mysterious Pirate in One Piece That Debunks Shanks’ Traitor Theory
Spoiler Alert !!!One Piece chapter 1125 spoilers
The Egghead Island arc has been officially concluded with the death of Saint Jaygarcia Saturn in the spoilers of One Piece chapter 1125. His failure to stop the Straw Hat Pirates resulted in Imu getting enraged to the point where he decided to use his mysterious abilities and kill the Elder. His death has introduced a lot of questions in the minds of One Piece fans.

However, his death has also given rise to multiple theories about the different aspects of the series. One of them is the mysterious Man Marked by Flames. Although the character is yet to be officially revealed in One Piece, he has already made a big name for himself in the pirate world because of his actions.
And now fans have come to assume that he might be a former Gorosei who managed to escape the death penalty of Imu. If this theory comes out to be true, it will not only help One Piece fans understand the character of the Man Marked by Flames, but it will also debunk the Shanks’ traitor theory.
The Mysterious Man Marked By Flames
The Man Marked by Flames, also known as Hinokizu, was first mentioned in chapter 1056 of the One Piece manga by Eustass Kid. It is believed that he possesses the Road Poneglyph, which was once located on Fish-Man Island but mysteriously vanished. His name originates from the burnt scars that he has all over his body.

Although he has been recently introduced in the narrative, he has already managed to make quite a big name for himself. He was even mentioned during the Egghead Island arc when the flashback of Kuzan joining the Blackbeard Pirates was being shown to the fans. According to the Blackbeard Pirates, he sails on an all-black ship that is too difficult to find.

Also, it has been rumored that he has the power (potentially Devil Fruit) to create ocean vortexes that swallow up any ships that come too close to him. Even the Emperors of the Sea don’t know his identity, which makes him one of the biggest mysteries in One Piece.
One Piece Theory Predicts The Identity of the Man Marked By Flames
According to a theory posted by @3SkullJoe on X, the Man Marked by Flames is actually a former Elder who was replaced by Ju Peter. There are multiple aspects supporting this theory. The first one being Shiryu’s comment in One Piece chapter 1081, where he hints that the mysterious pirate might be a man from the World Government as he possesses the last Poneglyph.

Secondly, out of all the Five Elders, Ju Peter is the youngest. Which possibly means that he was also a replacement just like Figarland Garling. Thus, there is a chance that Imu might have taken away the title of Elder from someone else in the past.

And finally, his name suggests that the burn scars on his body are permanent. Which means they are not caused by a normal flame. There is a chance that he was burned by the same black flames that killed Saturn, but somehow he survived.

Also, he could be the person about whom Shanks went to talk to the rest of the Five Elders, as he is a big mystery even for the Emperors of One Piece pirate world.
