Xbox Games Showcase will feature multiformat games and 360 RPG claims report

Predictions for Xbox’s all-important summer showcase suggest Perfect Dark, Doom, and a new Killer Instinct will all be part of the event.
In just over two weeks, on June 9, Microsoft will put on its second annual Xbox Games Showcase, after the widely acknowledge success of last year’s event, where they unveiled the first look at the Fable reboot and dedicated 30 minutes to Starfield.
Not a lot else has gone right for them since then, so a lot is riding on this year’s event, details of which have been leaking out for weeks now. Announcements for Gears Of War 6 and a new Doom title have been taken for read for a while now, but a new report suggests much more.
This includes the previously announced Contraband, Perfect Dark, a new Killer Instinct, and something to do with a classic Xbox 360 role-playing game. Perhaps most important though, it’s claimed that Microsoft will talk about its multiformat strategy, believed to be codenamed Latitude.
The article on Windows Central provides no indication of what multiformat announcements will be made exactly, although it’s predicted that the new Doom game will be on PlayStation 5 from day one – unlike other Bethesda releases since Microsoft acquired the company.
As for the mysterious Xbox 360 role-playing game, the hint that the news will ‘chase away the blues’ makes it pretty obvious it’s related to Blue Dragon. But since creator Hironobu Sakaguchi is now semi-retired and artist Akira Toriyama recently died it’s not clear how any kind of sequel would work, so perhaps it’s just a remaster or remake.
Contraband is by Just Cause developer Avalanche and while it was announced in 2021 the only thing that was ever said about it, is that it’s a ‘co-op smuggler’s paradise.’
State Of Decay 3 was also announced via a pre-rendered teaser trailer but nothing else has ever been seen of it, but apparently it’s also expected to feature in the showcase and is apparently ‘far more impressive than its predecessor’ – which wouldn’t be difficult.
Perfect Dark was recently said to be in a ‘very rough state’ but that’s been disputed by other sources and according to Windows Central the game is ‘shaping up nicely now.’
However, it’s often not clear in the report what is purely speculation and what is based on inside sources. Nevertheless, it’s predicted that developer Iron Galaxy is once again working on the Killer Instinct one-on-one fighting series in some capacity and that that is likely to feature.
Naturally, Obsidian’s Avowed will also be shown, which is one of the few guarantees as it’s out sometime in the second half of this year – unless it suddenly gets delayed. Likewise, Indiana Jones And The Great Circle will also definitely feature, because it’s meant to be out this year as well.

Interestingly, there’s no suggestion that Fable will be featured, with the article guessing that it’s too early for any more to be shown – despite it having been in development for several years now. No new Halo game is expected either.
It’s also predicted that there will be no major hardware reveals, despite Microsoft confirming it’s working on a next gen platform and rumours of a revamped Xbox Series X for this year.
Although Microsoft continues to keep it a secret, it’s now very obvious that the ‘redacted’ game taking the 30 minute preview slot is this year’s new Call Of Duty, which is expected to get an initial, but brief, reveal sometime before June 9.
