Key Ingredients
Lucky Charms Bars can be as easy as combining Lucky Charms, butter, and marshmallows, but a few extra ingredients make these the absolute BEST Lucky Charms Treats.
Here’s what you’ll need:
Butter– Salted or unsalted both work. I add a bit more salt if I use unsalted butter.
Sweetened condensed milk– This is the KEY to incredibly soft and gooey cereal treats!
Kosher salt- A pinch of salt balances the flavors and actually brings out the sweetness of the marshmallows.
Vanilla– Just a splash adds that extra bit of flavor that sets these treats apart.
Mini marshmallows– You can use regular marshmallows if that’s what you have on hand, but we find the mini kind melts best.
Lucky Charms cereal- Of course, you’ll need a box of Lucky Charms cereal to make these.
How to Make Lucky Charms Krispie Treats
Step 1: Melt butter and condensed milk. Melt the butter in a large pot on the stove over medium heat. Stir in the condensed milk and cook until just starting to bubble, 1-2 minutes.
Step 2: Stir in salt, vanilla, and marshmallows. Add the salt and vanilla extract, then stir in 6 cups of marshmallows. Reduce the heat to low and cook, stirring often, until the marshmallows are just melted.
Step 3: Add cereal. Stir in the cereal along with the last cup of marshmallows. Stir gently until well coated. Transfer to a greased pan and cool before cutting.
Tip: Reserve a few of the marshmallows before adding them to the pot, then gently spread them on top of the finished bars for extra colorful treats. You can also buy a bag of Lucky Charms marshmallows here.
How to Keep Cereal Treats Soft and Gooey
Add sweetened condensed milk. The condensed milk adds a sweetness reminiscent of the milk left at the bottom of a bowl of Lucky Charms. Plus, it helps keep the treats soft!
Add a handful of mini marshmallows at the end. I like to add about a cup of mallows with the cereal that won’t quite melt all the way. This leaves lovely little pockets of gooey marshmallow in the treats.
Don’t pat the treats down. I know it’s tempting to push the treats down into the pan, but please resist this urge! Patting the mixture down leads to hard, dense treats. Instead, spray your hands with cooking spray and use them to gently spread the treats evenly out over the pan. No need to press them down.
Storage and Make Ahead Instructions
Lucky Charms Rice Krispie Treats are best served within 24 hours, but thanks to the sweetened condensed milk, they’ll last for 2-3 days.
Store cereal treats in a sealed container or tightly wrapped in saran wrap. Do not refrigerate.
FAQs
Are Lucky Charms Treats gluten free?
Yes! One of the best things about these treats is that they’re naturally gluten free! The General Mill’s brand of Lucky Charms is gluten free. Some of their specialty flavors might not be gluten free, so be sure to always check labels before making the recipe.
Can you use big marshmallows to make krispie treats?
Yes, you can. They’ll take a little longer to melt, but they’ll work just fine. However, you can’t add them at the end like the mini marshmallows, so just omit that step in the recipe if you use regular marshmallows.

If desired, save a few of the marshmallows from the Lucky Charms before adding them to the melted marshmallow perspective. Press them gently on top of the finished bars for extra colorful treats.
