Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint was originally a web novel by Sing Shong. It tells the story of an ordinary office worker, Kim Dokja. The working man is the only reader for the in-universe webtoon, Three Ways to Survive in a Ruined World. When the events of the novel suddenly start blending with reality, Dokja’s precise knowledge of the story aids him in navigating the post-apocalyptic world that nobody else around him was prepared for.

The novel’s appeal and Shong’s genius lies in its intricate world-building, fast-paced action, and multi-layered narrative, tied together in a solid story with also utilizing twists seamlessly. Dokja builds a close friendship with the protagonist of Three Ways to Survive in a Ruined World and fan-favorite, Yoo Joonghyuk. The webtoon, however, seems to be creating some debate within the fandom if the pacing isn’t right for the story, while some argue it’s well-adapted for such a complex story.

While the original novel was fast-paced, the webtoon offers a slower version of the events of Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint. While many fans argue that the webtoon is ruining the pace of the original and indirectly disrespecting or ruining the story, some have logically also realized it’s likely because these fans have already read about the events. The anticipation is what ruins the pacing. If the story is already spoiled, reading it in a different medium builds a certain unfair expectation.
