Emeka Egbuka explains his responsibility as a captain
Wideout Emeka Egbuka is a captain for Ohio State this year. And he’s not taking the responsibility lightly as he seeks to lead his teammates forward not only as football players, but as people.
Egbuka, speaking with media ahead of Ohio State’s season opener, shared how he’ll go about being a leader. For him, it starts and stops with being a good Christian.

“Really what I view my responsibility as captain and just as person is to push everybody closer to Christ and by doing that I try to walk as close to Christ as I can myself,” Egbuka said. “Kind of be that example, be that guy for people to look up and I think all the basic principles that are found in the bible, and trying to pursue Christ will naturally make you a better leader, better person, better football player, in a sense. So I just try my best to emulate him.”
The Buckeyes will certainly need Egbuka to step up at wideout, along with plenty of others, in the absence of Marvin Harrison Jr. But Egbuka is certainly capable.

Over the past two seasons, Egbuka has caught 115 passes for 1666 yards and 14 touchdowns. He’s also got a pair of rushing touchdowns.
And whether it’s leading through his actions on the field or his work off it, Egbuka seems intent on making sure his leadership role doesn’t go to waste this year.
Egbuka has been starring behind the scenes for the Buckeyes this fall
Ryan Day named at least two standouts, one apiece on offense and defense, from Ohio State’s first scrimmage of fall camp in mid-August.
Day singled out those two leading players during his press conference on Thursday. He said the names of linebacker Arvell Reese and Egbuka as the pair of players from each unit that won Player of the Game. However, they were just two of several that were champions in their eyes from that outing.
“You know, on defense, Arvell Reese really played well. He was the Player of the Game on defense,” said Day. “Then, on offense, Emeka was the Player of the Game – had three really good touchdown catches. The receivers played well in that game. Those are the guys who flashed. There were other guys who graded out as champions. If I say one, I’m going to forget the rest of them. There were a handful.”
