The incident, captured on video surveillance, occurred late in the evening on April 24, leaving a man without his possessions. A 37-year-old male fell victim to an armed assailant who, as seen in the video, approached him from behind on the 1700 block of Brown Street.
With the time stamp marking 11:35 pm on the troubling night, the suspect – described as a Black male in his 20s, about 5'8" tall - demanded the victim's belongings while brandishing a firearm. He made off with those belongings, fleeing north on 17th Street, according to the Philadelphia Police Department's official blotter. Seen wearing a light-colored hooded sweatshirt, dark jacket, dark pants, and a backpack, his identity remains unknown. A video of the incident has been released on the Philadelphia Police YouTube Channel in an effort to solicit public assistance in identifying the suspect.
While the authorities have urged anyone who spots the individual not to approach but instead to contact 911 immediately, they are also accepting tips that might lead to an arrest.
