Ted Lasso and Magpie Murders stars in first-look images for BBC's new Lynley adaptation
The release of the BBC's new series Lynley is fast approaching, and as such we've just received a host of new first-look images giving us a better look at the cast.The new series is adapted from the best-selling novels by Elizabeth George, who acts as an executive producer. Her works were previously adapted for The Inspector Lynley Mysteries, which starred Nathaniel Parker and Sharon Small and ran for six seasons between 2001 and 2007.The newly released images show us cast members Leo Suter (Vikings: Valhalla) and Sofia Barclay (Ted Lasso), who play the new versions of Tommy Lynley and Barbara Havers.Meanwhile, they also show us Daniel Mays (Magpie Murders), who plays senior detective DCI Brian Nies.The drama will be made up of four 90-minute episodes, and is expected to launch this autumn on BBC iPlayer and BBC One.
The official synopsis for Lynley says: "Tommy Lynley is a brilliant police detective but an outsider in the force – simply by virtue of his aristocratic upbringing."He is paired with Barbara Havers, a sergeant with a maverick attitude and a working-class background.
"With seemingly nothing in common and against all odds, the mismatched duo of Lynley and Havers become a formidable team, bonded by their desire to see justice done."His brain and her spirit – his knowledge and her instincts. It is only through working side by side do they both find where they truly belong."The show comes from Sherlock writer Steve Thompson, while its supporting cast also includes Niamh Walsh (The Sandman), Michael Workeye (Bookish) and Joshua Sher (Vera).When the series was first announced, Thompson said: "It's a privilege and a thrill to have the opportunity to adapt these wonderful books for television."Elizabeth George's iconic characters are greatly loved and her gripping stories are smart and ingenious."
