Arch Manning nearly reaches 21 mph on rushing touchdown vs. UTSA
Arch Manning collected his first career touchdowns in the season opener against Colorado State, but on Saturday he had to step in for starter Quinn Ewers unexpectedly. And, boy, did he deliver.
In fact, Manning did something incredibly impressive in his performance. In smoking the entire UTSA defense with a 67-yard touchdown run, Manning actually hit a top speed of 20.7 miles per hour, according to Reel Analytics.

That’s lightning fast for a quarterback.
Though his performance Saturday came under very unwanted circumstances — an injury to Ewers — Arch Manning proved he was ready to deliver in a big way. Ewers exited the game in the second quarter, leaving the game in Manning’s capable hands.

All the second-year quarterback did was throw for 223 yards and four touchdowns without an interception while also rushing for 53 yards and the score.
Texas won 56-7.
The Longhorns have lofty aspirations this season, coming on the heels of a College Football Playoff appearance a year ago. With the expanded playoff, a return trip is certainly the goal for Texas.
It might well need to rely on Arch Manning to get there.
According to ESPN insider Pete Thamel, Ewers is likely to miss the Louisiana-Monroe game this weekend. He is reportedly “week-to-week” with the abdominal strain. So it’ll be the Arch Manning show for at least a week.
So far this season Manning has gone 14-of-18 passing for 318 yards and five touchdowns. He has not thrown an interception, while he has run for two scores.
At least one prominent ESPN analyst believes Manning will eventually win a Heisman Trophy given what he has shown so far. And that means there isn’t much difference between Arch Manning and Quinn Ewers in the short term.
“I mean, I don’t think they look any different,” Paul Finebaum said. “Now, I’m sure, the the old timers will say — not that I’m a new timer — ‘Hey, that experience of Quinn Ewers.’ But Arch Manning looks like he’s been around and I think Texas is in great shape.
“As I remember, Spencer Rattler, wasn’t he the Heisman favorite going into the season? And he got replaced by Caleb Williams. So, I mean it’s happened before, but I’m sure Sark will figure this out. It doesn’t matter. Texas doesn’t have much on their dance card until we get to October, so they’re in good shape.”
