Lakers coaching search: JJ Redick still a 'viable candidate'

Team and league sources cautioned that the coaching search remains far from settled. Lakers vice president of basketball operations and general manager Rob Pelinka and governor Jeanie Buss will interview Hurley in a more formal manner on Friday, league sources confirmed. There is still a chance the 51-year-old will work out a new contract with Connecticut and remain college basketball’s top coach. Hurley signed a six-year, $32.1 million deal with Connecticut after the 2023 championship season. His buyout to join the NBA would be roughly $1.9 million. Redick, considered the front-runner for weeks, remains a viable candidate, according to league sources.Source: New York Times

A thought about Hurley: I’ve been concerned if Redick is hired, but no time soon, it could put the Lakers behind the 8 ball if they end up keeping 17. But with Hurley, however long it takes to put pen to ink, his inherent knowledge of these prospects can make up for lost time. AK – 3:52 PM

More on this storyline
The Dallas Mavericks were defeated 107-89 in Game 1 of the NBA Finals by the Boston Celtics. Although it is not time to panic, Dallas needs to make some adjustments. JJ Redick, who knows the game of basketball well and is even a current head coaching candidate for the Los Angeles Lakers, revealed an adjustment he believes the Mavs need to make for Game 2, via his YouTube channel. -via Clutch Points / June 7, 2024

Though Krzyzewski also has ties to Redick, who played under him at Duke from 2002 to 2006, his relationship with Hurley and the belief he has shown in him has been one of the many factors in the Lakers’ process that have led them to aggressively pursue him, according to team and league sources. -via New York Times / June 6, 2024
