Elite 2026 WR Devin Carter on why Notre Dame is a ‘top contender’ for him
Ellenwood (Ga.) Cedar Grove wide receiver Devin Carter first heard from Notre Dame a couple weeks before St. Patrick’s Day, which is when the Irish staff had their “Pot of Gold day” and offered several dozen prospects in the rising junior class.
He started to build a relationship with the Notre Dame staff, earned his offer from them and then set up a visit to check out campus for the first time.
Carter, who ranks as the No. 21 overall prospect and No. 3 wide receiver nationally according to the 2026 On3 Industry Ranking, had only good things to say about his time in South Bend April 6.
“I liked it,” he told Blue & Gold. “I got to watch practice, and the intensity was great. I liked Coach [Mike] Brown’s attention to detail. We got to sit in receiver meetings, and I enjoyed it. I plan on getting back soon.”
Meeting with the Notre Dame staff was a highlight of his trip.
“Coach [Mike] Denbrock — I got to meet him last year at LSU, and I liked him there. When I heard he was going to Notre Dame, that automatically made them a top contender for me because of his offense and how he gets his playmakers the ball in their hands.
“I liked sitting in Coach Brown’s receiver meeting. I saw him working with guys after practice, which was cool to watch.”
Carter likes what the Irish staff offers on the field and is impressed with what the university offers of of it.
“I knew about Notre Dame academics before the visit,” Carter noted. “To have the opportunity to attend a school like that is awesome, and I’m appreciative of it.”
Notre Dame was among a handful of visits for Carter in the spring, so it’s tough to get a strong read on where the Irish stand in his recruitment. It is early for him, though; he doesn’t plan on making a commitment until next year.
“I enjoyed the visit,” Carter added regarding his time in South Bend. “I like Coach [Marcus] Freeman and the staff. I look forward to building a relationship with those guys and getting back up soon.”
His father, Dexter, played in the NFL as a running back for the San Fransisco 49ers (1990-94, 96-96) and the New York Jets (1995). He was with the 49ers when they won Super Bowl XXIX. One of his teammates that championship season? Notre Dame legend Bryant Young.
The Irish currently have one receiver commitment in the 2026 class in Sunshine State athlete Dylan Faison.
