Rising in-state 2025 DL Logan Howell goes in-depth on spring visit to Michigan
The week of the April 20 spring game, Michigan wrapped up camp practice and brought in 2025 Detroit (Mich.) Cass Tech defensive lineman Logan Howell for his first-ever visit to the facilities.
“It was good,” Howell told The Wolverine. “I like to meet players like Semaj Morgan, Mason Graham. I got to meet the big-time players who helped them win the national championship.”
Howell resides less than an hour from Ann Arbor, so several of his friends, including early enrollee defensive Jacob Oden, are currently on the Michigan roster.
“It’s good because we played on the same little league team, so it was great reconnecting, seeing how they’re doing,” Howell said. “It motivated me to be a student, and it motivated me to be able to play college football.”
Howell’s first experience inside Schembechler Hall featured glimpses of the amenities that players are given year-round, which kept his attention throughout the tour.
“What really piqued my interest is how big the weight room is and how, from my point of view, they spoke high about the weight room,” Howell said. “In the weight room, they got stronger, and they spent most of their time with the weight room staff to get their bodies right, especially in case of an emergency. And they said they spend more time with the training staff and the weight room staff than with the coaches.”
Howell also caught a glimpse of practice, during which he paid plenty of attention to the defensive linemen, especially Graham and Kenneth Grant.
“Practice was good,” Howell said. “I liked it. Some of my friends were preaching how they were physical and stuff. I feel like (Graham and Grant) are a dynamic duo, especially because they can switch positions, and they know each other’s positions like that. So, I feel that they’re a dynamic duo. They know what they’re supposed to do and how to be a physical D-line.”
New Michigan defensive line coach Lou Esposito also met with Howell.
“I feel the way he’s coaching them is the way I want to be coached,” Howell said. “Especially teaching them to knock back. When I talked to him when he first got the job, he was talking about knock back and how he loved from myself, and what he recruits for D-line is what I do.”
Esposito told Howell that the latter is invited to come out to campus again next month to camp in front of the coaching staff, which the Detroit native plans on doing as he works towards picking up an offer.
“That would really mean a lot to me,” Howell said. “Michigan is one of my favorite teams since I was seven when I first learned about it. Then, seeing what they produce, like Jabrill Peppers, Mike Saintristil, and Roman Wilson. Just seeing all of the guys be able to be produced from Michigan is really a big influence. So, if I got offered, that would be in the world for me. If I do end up getting offered, that would be one of my top schools.”
At 6-foot-4, 310 pounds, Howell is not listed on the On3 Industry Ranking. He currently holds notable offers from Marshall, Buffalo, Northern Illinois, Western Michigan, Bowling Green, Kent State, and others.
