Danny Stutsman is not alone for OU at inside linebacker
Spring football is done for OU. The transfer portal has long been closed. You can start digging in as to what the 2024 version of the Oklahoma Sooners is going to be.
We’re going to take a look back at everything we saw from Brent Venables’ group in the spring as Team 130 embarks on its SEC journey.
The good, the bad and everything in between. It’s time to officially become SEC ready.
What we learned at OU: Inside linebacker
How big it was that Danny Stutsman decided to stay on for one more season. Not just because of his production and experience, but because of his leadership. This room is just different because Stutsman wanted one more year.
But? Stutsman does not have to do anything on his own. A loaded group that somehow has stayed intact. It’s a crowded room, which is great for OU, but you wondered how certain guys would respond to their role.
Instead, Kip Lewis, Jaren Kanak and Kobie McKinzie are all still around. Lewis is on the verge of becoming a breakout star. And nobody had a better positive mental/physical winter and spring than McKinzie. He simply decided to buckle down and work.
Perhaps Dasan McCullough gets throw in here, but one name we know will start to peak through is Lewis Carter. The reviews were too positive about Carter to have him be denied in 2024.
Keeping this group together was why OU didn’t go linebacker-heavy for the Class of 2024. It worked, and with Zac Alley in charge? Time to see just how good they can all be.
Quotable
“I’m actually very impressed with how the defense has done. We’ve actually really kind of really found ourself. Watching us go out there, watching the young guys get up there and just, the standard doesn’t fall off when those guys are in there and it’s great to see those younger guys really step up and just perform. Absolutely. I mean, we have to play complimentary football at all times. The defense always, especially, you know, the guys in that room with Billy, me, Ethan, everyone else, that’s what we want. We don’t want to be the ‘but’ of the conversation. We want to be the ‘why.’ And I think we try every single day to be the reason. That’s what we wanna do and we wanna step up and be a part of that.” – Stutsman
