Waffles Sold At Walmart, Target, Publix Recalled Over Listeria Risk
OAK BROOK, IL — An Illinois company has issued a voluntary recall of more than 500 kinds of frozen waffles because the products may be contaminated with listeria. The frozen waffles manufactured by TreeHouse Foods were sold in the United States and Canada and sold at various grocery chains, the company said Friday. The recall was issued after routine testing discovered the presence of Listeria monocytogenes in the products.According to the company, the waffles were sold at the following stores:Aldi (Breakfast Best brand)Walmart (Great Value brand)Target (Good & Gather brand)Dollar General (Clover Valley brand)PublixFood LionGiant EagleHannafordHarris TeeterH-E-BPriceChopperSchnucksSoutheastern GrocersTopsA full list of the recalled products can be found online.Consumers and retailers can find the UPC on the back of the carton, as well as the Lot Code and Best By Date for these products on the end of the carton. Photos of the affected products can also be found on this site.To date, there have been no confirmed reports of illness linked to the recalled products. Eating food contaminated with L. monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, a serious infection that primarily affects people who are pregnant, aged 65 or older, or with weakened immune systems. People outside these risk groups are less affected.Symptoms of listeriosis include fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, and convulsions, and are sometimes preceded by diarrhea or other gastrointestinal symptoms. The new recall is the latest concerning products potentially contaminated with listeria. This week, Oklahoma-based BrucePac recalled nearly 12 million pounds of ready-to-eat meat and poultry products over possible listeria contamination. The products were shipped to grocery stores across the nation and also sent to schools, distributors, restaurants and other institutions. The new recall also comes amid a continued investigation into a listeria outbreak tied to Boar's Head deli meats and liverwurst. In three months, the outbreak has killed 10 people and sickened 59 in 19 states, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.Consumers should check their freezers for the affected waffles and dispose of them or return the product to the place of purchase for a refund. Consumers with questions can contact TreeHouse Foods at 800-596-2903, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. CST.The article Waffles Sold At Walmart, Target, Publix Recalled Over Listeria Risk appeared first on Across America, US Patch.
