President Trump Reacts to Biden's Prostate Cancer Diagnosis

President Donald Trump wished Joe Biden a "fast and successful recovery" on Sunday night following the announcement of the former president's aggressive prostate cancer diagnosis.

Trump has long criticized Biden, particularly during the 2024 presidential campaign that saw Biden step down due to concerns raised from inside and outside the Democratic Party. Questions swirled about his mental acuity and possible decline as the White House and then-Vice President Kamala Harris fielded questions about his cognitive ability in the final months of his presidency.
Trump, 78, placed great emphasis on his physical health, especially during the campaign, during which he contrasted himself against the older Biden, 82. During press conferences, Trump openly mocked "Sleepy Joe" and questioned his ability to lead the country.

Trump took to Truth Social, his social media platform, to share his message about Biden's diagnosis.
"Melania and I are saddened to hear about Joe Biden's recent medical diagnosis," he wrote in the post. "We extend our warmest and best wishes to Jill and the family, and we wish Joe a fast and successful recovery."
Biden's personal office released a statement regarding the former president's diagnosis on Sunday afternoon, saying that last week he "was seen for a new finding of a prostate nodule after experiencing increasing urinary symptoms."
The statement continued: "On Friday, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, characterized by a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5) with metastasis to the bone. While this represents a more aggressive form of the disease, the cancer appears to be hormone-sensitive which allows for effective management. The President and his family are reviewing treatment options with his physicians."
The Gleason score is a scale of 1 to 10 that gives patients and doctors a framework of how severe the cancer is, according to the Cleveland Clinic's website. Any Gleason score of 6 or higher is considered cancerous.
It is quite common for men over the age of 50 to experience prostate problems. Some of the most common health issues include benign prostatic hyperplasia, prostatitis and prostate cancer.

In 2021, the latest year for which data is available, 236,659 new cases of prostate cancer were reported in the United States, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Prostate cancer was the most common of all cancers diagnosed in men that year, followed by lung and bronchus, and colon and rectum cancer.

What Happens Next?
Biden's office said that he would be receiving treatment following the diagnosis although they did not specify which treatment path the former president would take.
