PSU 4-star running back commit Alvin Henderson visiting Auburn on Saturday
Four-star running back Alvin Henderson, who is committed to Penn State, has arrived in Auburn for an unofficial visit.
Henderson, who is from Elba, Ala., committed to the Nittany Lions over Auburn on April 11. Auburn, however, has not stopped recruiting him. His familiarity with Auburn was never in question, having visited Auburn more than any schools.
His relationship with Hugh Freeze and Derrick Nix always has been strong, too. He last visited Auburn in late March and watched the Tigers practice.
“I already pretty much knew what the message was, I just wanted to see how Coach Nix interacted with the running backs this spring,” Henderson said. “He told me he was going to play a huge role in the offense so I wanted to see how all of that would look. I was pretty impressed.”
Henderson quickly has developed a relationship with Nix.
“I didn’t know Coach Nix (before he got to Auburn),” he said. “But from day one I met Coach Nix, our relationship hit just like that. So we’ve been tight ever since Coach (Carnell Williams) left.”
Freeze been constant in recruitment of Henderson
The one constant at Auburn has been Freeze, with whom Henderson always has had a strong bond.
“He’s been my guy since day one,” he said. “(I like Auburn) because of the relationship I’ve built with Coach Freeze. Because when Coach (Bryan) Harsin was here, I really didn’t communicate with Auburn. When Coach Freeze came in, he showed me and my family that I was his No. 1 guy.
“He feels like I can be the person to come in and help build the class and obviously recruit another great running back and then everybody else at a position we need. (Freeze) told me he wants to take two (running backs).”
Henderson is listed at 5-foot-9 and 185 pounds. The On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies, ranks him the No. 115 overall recruit in the country and No. 11 in Alabama.
As a junior, Henderson rushed for 3,523 yards and 61 touchdowns. In his high school career, he’s rushed for 7,274 yards and 132 touchdowns.
