Brady was given a four game suspension after it was deemed the Patriots deflated balls during the 2014 AFC championship game.
While up at the podium, the legendary quarterback seemed to admit that he was a part of the controversy.
“Where’s Roger Goodell?” Brady said.
“Remember Deflategate? The NFL spent $20 million and found it was more ‘probable’ than not that I was ‘generally’ aware that someone may have deflated my footballs.
“You could have just given me the $20 million, and I would’ve told you I f***ing did it.”
The joke got mixed reactions from Patriots of Brady’s past as some took it more seriously than others.
Bill Belichick seemed to get a big kick out of it, standing up and giving Brady an ovation for his hilarious admision.
Rob Gronkowski seemed less thrilled with the joke and put on more of a stern face after the admission.
The rest of his Patriots teammates seemed more in favor of the joke, with Julian Edelman and Danny Amendola in fits of laughter.
Fans were split on the joke, with some thinking it was an admission of guilt and others saying it was just Brady taking a dig at the NFL.
“Cheating organization admitting to cheating therefore their ring should be stripped away,” one fan said.
“No? He’s saying if they just gave the money up front he would’ve admitted to it because they were already convinced that he did it,” another fan said.
“You can tell by his teammates’ faces that it’s the truth as well,” a third fan said.
“He definitely did because you could tell Gronk was shocked he admitted it,” a fourth fan said.
The roast of Brady was mostly a success, but there were some awkward moments during the night.
At one point, Brady took offense to a joke that Jeff Ross made and told him to knock it off.
Ross made a joke alluding to charges that Patriots owner Robert Kraft faced in 2019.
“Don’t say that s*** again,” Brady said.
