Steve McBee, the family patriarch, previously appeared on the show alongside his sons, Steven McBee Jr., Jesse McBee, Cole McBee, and Brayden McBee. However, legal issues have already haunted the series, with the patriarch pleading guilty to multiple financial crimes.
Since then, fans have been wondering about Steve Sr.’s sentencing. According to People, as part of his plea, Steve Sr. admitted to a fraud scheme that used the receipt of federal crop insurance benefits he wasn’t authorized to receive.
The McBee patriarch was charged with one count of federal crop insurance fraud. According to a press release from the Department of Justice, through the plea deal, he effectively admitted to having “engaged in fraudulent activity from 2018 to 2020 that caused an economic loss to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.”
Steve faces up to 30 years in federal prison without the possibility of parole should he be convicted. His sentence hearing will take place following an investigation by the United States Probation Office.
The release claimed that Steve admitted to falsely reporting fraudulent benefits to the company Rain and Hail, which is reinsured by the Federal Crop Insurance Corporation. According to the release, Steve admitted to sending “fraudulent documents to Rain and Hail that underreported his total 2018 corn crop by approximately 674,812 bushels.

It was also claimed Steve Sr. “underreported his total 2018 soybean crop by approximately 155,833 bushels.” Between the money received in benefits and premium subsidies, he received a total of $3,158,923.
There’s also the issue of Steve Sr.’s legal concerns impacting his role on the show. Screen Rant had previously confirmed that he would not be returning for the second season. This has placed the responsibility of managing the family business in the hands of his sons.
At the time, the outlet mused, “Steve’s legal troubles mean that the time is now for the brothers to decide who will be in charge of the business and their family’s livelihood. Steven Jr. always felt that as the eldest, he’d be next in the line of succession, but younger brother Cole has always felt that he works harder than Steven Jr.”
The McBee Family Dynasty is currently airing on Bravo, with the first episode airing on June 30, 2025. At this time, fans can also stream the first season on Peacock.
