Newsstand: Where is Penn State projected in updated College Football Playoff Predictions?
Penn State news, notes, and updates for Sept. 16 include an update on where the Nittany Lions rank in ESPN’s updated College Football Power Index. On3’s Andy Staples also released his updated College Football Playoff Predictions.
Penn State Tweets of the Day
Penn State may have had the week off, but with other teams impressing on Saturday, it resulted in the Nittany Lions dropping a few spots in both major polls. Last week, the Nittany Lions edged out Missouri by one point in the Coaches Poll to sit at No. 7 nationally. Now, those two programs are tied at No. 8 nationally following Missouri’s win over Boston College.
In the AP Poll, media members were impressed with Oregon’s big win over rival Oregon State, as well as Miami’s early season results. That resulted in Penn State moving down two spots in the Associated Press Poll to No. 10 nationally.
Those results also had an impact on ESPN’s College Football Power Index, as Penn State moved down two spots to No. 9.

College Football Playoff predictions are also a popular talking point with 12 teams now set to get a chance at the national championship. On3’s Andy Staples released his updated predictions Sunday evening, slotting Penn State at No. 10 in his updated bracketology article. Staples has them traveling to Knoxville for a first-round matchup against Tennessee.

Quote of the day
“The Nittany Lions had a week to figure out why Bowling Green got so close to them, and on Saturday they’ll face the Kent State team that got splattered 71-0 by Tennessee. We swear the interesting part of Penn State’s schedule will begin sooner than it did in the Big Ten East days, but it still won’t be until October.”
