A Royal Insider Hits Back at Kate Middleton Claims That She's Exiting Her Palace Role
The palace is probably exhausted from royal fans going around in circles, asking where Kate Middleton is. We know, and it’s been confirmed by Kensington Palace, that she’s prioritizing her health amid her cancer battle. However, people seem to be impatient that certain deadlines for her return weren’t met — Easter and Trooping the Colour — but recovering from an illness does not follow a calendar. Kate will be ready to return when she’s feeling better.
An Us Weekly source sounded the alarm bells on Tuesday by claiming that Kate “may never come back in the role that people saw her in before.” Her team was “reevaluating what she’s going to be able to take on when she comes back,” which sounded dire and drastic. Now, a palace insider is trying to calm down the inflammatory headlines by telling Harper’s Bazaar that the Princess of Wales is only thinking about regaining her strength, not cutting ribbons at her next royal engagement.

“There is no information about Kate’s ‘return’ because the focus at this moment in time is 100% on her health—to suggest she won’t return to her role is unfair and untrue,” they shared. “Conversations of that nature are just not being had. When the time is right, she will resume her work.” Phew! That sounds like a more reasonable expatiation of what is happening with Kate right now. The source noted that she’s “in good spirits” and is still “focused on her health and family.”
Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams warned the palace that while Kate deserves all the privacy in the world, they also need to be better about their communications, especially if the rumors are true that she will be out until next fall or early winter. “I hope [by then we] would have heard when it is appropriate from Kensington Palace because lessons should’ve been learned from what happened earlier,” he said to Us Weekly. “If you’re not told at all, and months pass, there’s clearly speculation, and that could happen again. So, I’m sure that it will be handled differently.”
Kate’s words from her emotional video in March still hold true when she revealed to the world that her cancer diagnosis “came as a huge shock.” She added, “William and I have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family. As you can imagine, this has taken time. It has taken me time to recover from major surgery in order to start my treatment. But most importantly, it has taken us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte, and Louis in a way that is appropriate for them, and to reassure them that I’m going to be okay.” A cancer battle isn’t linear, so royal fans will have to be patient about her timeline moving forward.
