Chad Duell Books an Exciting New Role!
When Chad Duell exited General Hospital earlier this year, the chance to explore other acting opportunities was one of his reasons for stepping away from the soap. And now, just a few months later, he’s landed an exciting role in a new play!
Duell and Zach Mendez will star together in the premiere of Yum Yum at Annapolis, a new play written and directed by Bruce Reisman. Stoneypoint Entertainment announced the show in a joint Instagram post with Duell and Mendez. “Today, the cast and production team (producer Dorothy Amos) made it official,” Stoneypoint shared in the March 3 post. “Rehearsals begin with table read next week.”
The “two-hander” play (a program that has only two main characters) is inspired by the real-life friendship in 1939 between American playwright Eugene O’Neill (played by Mendez) and a young sailor — Duell’s Eddie — who is hired as a handyman to rebuild the front porch where the writer penned his magnum opus, Long Day’s Journey Into Night. “These two stage-trained pros will share the stage, alone, for 90 minutes” with no intermission, Stoneypoint continued. “It will be ‘Acting Olympics’ for these guys.”
Michael is off in rehab recovering from his burns but fans still hope Duell will reprise the role one day.ABC
Yum Yum at Annapolis will make its world premiere in April at the legendary El Portal Theatre in North Hollywood in a full-tech and costumed concert reading in front of an invited audience. “It’s the start of a journey to New York, where an Off-Off-Broadway run is planned for late fall,” announced Stoneypoint.
Duell joined the cast of GH in April 2010, taking over the role of Michael Corinthos from Drew Garrett. He announced in late November that he would be exiting the soap after 15 years, and Michael was written out when Carly accompanied him to a German burn center for treatment after he was nearly killed in an explosion at Sonny’s penthouse.
