Obituary: Robert Peter Olechna, 91, of East Haven
Obituary courtesy of Keenan Funeral Home:Robert Peter Olechna, 91, passed away peacefully on May 14, 2024, in West Haven CT. Robert was born on November 23, 1932, in Scranton, PA to the late Peter and Mary (Guziel) Olechna.During his life Robert was employed at Sikorsky Aircraft for over 40 years in Stratford, CT as an Assembler/Mechanic. He served in the US Army during the Korean War and was deployed to Korea for the full term of his enlistment. Robert was a self-taught woodworker who loved to make furniture, toys and items for his family, grandchildren, and friends. He enjoyed working outdoors, taking care of his yard, and maintaining his beautiful flower gardens, shrubs, and lawn. Robert was a member of the East Haven Senior Club and Jolly Time, where he enjoyed luncheons, trips and playing bingo.An Army Korean War veteran, he was a self-taught woodworker who enjoyed working in his gardens and East Haven Senior Club trips.Robert is predeceased by his beloved wife of over 48 years, Ann Maleta Olechna; all his brothers and sisters: Helen Fritz, Stella Olechna, Mary Kusy, Wanda Lukiewski, John Olechna, Frank Olechna, Anna Young, Dorothy Siekierka, Edward Olechna and Richard Olechna; a grandson, Daniel Macy, all his in-laws and several nieces and nephews.Robert is survived by his devoted daughter, son-in-law, grandson, and granddaughter: Debra Klembara, Michael Klembara, Christopher (Katelyn) Klembara and Lauren (Tim) Klembara, his cherished fiancé Virginia Bruno, daughter Suzanne Macy, granddaughter Sarah Curry and numerous nieces, nephews. A very special thank you goes out to Barbara Piccillo, Robert’s caregiver for over two years. Her warmth and kindness brightened many of his days.Services will be held on Monday, May 20th from 4pm to 7pm at Keenan Funeral Home 238 Elm Street in West Haven.
