Warrington Man Faces Charges After Threatening Police
WARRINGTON TOWNSHIP, PA — A 34-year-old Warrington man faces an aggravated assault charge after threatening police during an incident on Red Oak Drive.Steven Joseph Murta has been charged by police with aggravated assault, resisting arrest, defiant trespass, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness and similar misconduct.On May 13 around 3:59 p.m., police were called to Red Oak Drive for the reports of a man "who looked crazy and had two black and bloodshot eyes." The man, later identified as Steven Murta from Warrington, was seen in the backyard of a residence carrying a pillow. It is unknown how Murta got into the secured backyard. Despite being asked to leave, Murta claimed he had been invited inside.When the officers arrived, they found Murta on the patio of another house, shouting. Officers tried to persuade him to go back home, but he refused to cooperate and threatened the officers. Murta continued to be aggressive and hostile toward police and took a fighting stance, police said.During an attempt to place Murta in custody for criminal trespass, he resisted grabbing a flashlight from one of the officer's vests.While members of the Warrington Ambulance provided medical treatment, Murta spit in the face of one of the ambulance personnel. He was taken to Doylestown Hospital but was later released and transported to the station.At his arraignment, Judge Marriott set bail at $35,000 or 10 percent cash, which Murta was unable to pay.
