Greg Edwards ends Connor Hall’s Langley Speedway Late Model domination by winning second twin 50-lap race
Apparently, Connor Hall isn’t invincible at Langley Speedway after all.
The Hampton native won the first Late Model 50-lap feature on a warm Saturday night in his hometown, but division points leader Greg Edwards of Poquoson relegated Hall to runner-up status in the second 50-lapper. Woody Howard, who had been seventh in the opener, was third.
Last year, Hall became the first driver in Langley’s almost 75-year history to win the NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series national championship. He now has 16 Late Model victories and 19 top-fives among his 20 results this year.
Hall won the opener by 2.001 seconds over Mark Wertz, who edged points leader Edwards for third place by 394-thousandths of a second.
In that opener, 11 of the 17 competitors finished on the lead lap in a race that took just more than 17 1/2 minutes.
Hall, who had won all seven of his Langley Late Model races this year until Edwards overcame him, regularly competes on the CARS Tour. Hall leads Chesapeake’s Brenden “Butterbean” Queen by three points atop the CARS standings and still has an excellent shot to repeat his Weekly Series title.
In Saturday’s other races:
Super Street: Dale Nichols extended his winning streak to five races this year and remained unbeaten in the division.
He took just more than 13:05 to win a 40-lap race by a relatively comfortable 2.063 seconds over Jacob Wood. Sammy Gaita placed third, 2.358 seconds behind Nichols, among 15 drivers.
Grand Stock: Tim Wilson prevailed over 40 laps and about 12:45, beating runner-up Bill Eaker by 1.914 seconds in the field of seven. It was Wilson’s third triumph in five races.
Paul Lubno, the last driver on the lead lap, was third. Lubno, who has two victories in 2024, entered the evening trailing Wilson by one point.
Super Truck: Points leader Chase McAdams raced to a 25-lap triumph in just more than 15 1/2 minutes, beating Chris McEvoy by 503-thousandths of a second and third-place Donald Brown by 0.953.
Five of the nine drivers finished on the lead lap. McAdams became the division’s first competitor with more than one victory in 2024.
UCAR: Christian Keller maintained his domination this year, winning a 25-lap race by 2.421 seconds over Thomas Fontaine, who was second in the field of 12. It lasted just more than 8:08 for Keller, who has won five out of six UCAR races this year.
Champ Kart: Jordan Valdes edged Trace Wyatt by 81-thousandths of a second in a white-knuckle finish of a 20-lap race that included just five drivers. It took less than 7 1/2 minutes. Jimmy Carr was a distant third, 5.643 seconds off the lead.
It was Valdes’ third victory in four races this year.
