After being introduced for the first time in the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL), the Smart Replay System (SRS) is set to go global and make its debut in an International Cricket Council (ICC) event for the first time in the history during the Women's T20 World Cup 2024.The 10-team mega event kicked off on Thursday (October 3) in Sharjah with a match between Bangladesh and Scotland. The Decision Review System (DRS) will also be available at all matches, with a Hawk-Eye Smart Replay System in place that enables the TV umpire to instantly review synchronized multi-angle footage for accurate decision-making," ICC said in their release. The SRS makes the job of the third-umpire easier as the hawk-eye operaters will sit in the same room as her and removes the need of the TV broadcast director, who used to play the role of a mediator between the TV umpire and the technology operaters. With this system, the third umpire can skip checking for ultra-edge if there is an evident gap between bat and ball.
