Nick Singleton injury update: James Franklin reveals major change in Penn State RB’s status
Penn State coach James Franklin had a positive update to give on the injury to star running back Nick Singleton. The Nittany Lions leading rusher did not play last week as he missed the first two days of practice and was limited Thursday and Friday before a game against UCLA.
However, Franklin is optimistic about his status heading into a Week 7 matchup with USC. He told reporters Monday that Singleton was close to playing Saturday against the Bruins and should be good to go this weekend.

“I thought he was going last Saturday,” Franklin said. “…The trainers take those guys and work them out on their own, so that’s part of the evaluation. Saturday, he wasn’t 100%, but we thought he was gonna go. I guess my point is he was very close to going last week.
“So as long as we don’t have any setbacks this week, I would anticipate him going. I also would anticipate him practicing Tuesday and Wednesday. I think Nick’s very confident, talking to him on Sunday, that he’ll be ready to go.”

With Singleton out last week, Kaytron Allen got full control of the backfield. He saw 21 carries for 78 yards and a touchdown as Penn State coasted to a 27-11 win.
Singleton’s return means the two will likely go back to sharing carries. They had an equal number of opportunities in the four games prior to last week. Singleton had been slightly more effective with his attempts as he totaled 408 yards and three touchdowns.
The Nittany Lions are off to a 5-0 start this season and rank No. 17 in the country with 217.8 rushing yards per game. They’ll look to continue that success against the Trojans with Singleton back in the fold.
Kickoff between Penn State and USC is set for 3:30 p.m. CT on Saturday at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.
