Winners and Losers: Kansas State makes cut for five-star
KSO covers the biggest winners and losers in the world of Kansas State and college athletics.
Winners
1.) Bat Cats: Though they were just 1-2 in Arlington, Pete Hughes and Kansas State are in the NCAA Tournament. They were selected to the Fayetteville regional (Arkansas) and will face Louisiana Tech in game one. 2.) Lepak: Assistant Brian Lepak and K-State unsurprisingly made the final four for newly-minted five-star tight end Linkon Cure, joined by Texas A&M, Oregon and Kansas. Those were the expected contenders at this stage of the process. Kansas State also gets the last official visit. 3.) October 12: With Dylan Edwards now in Manhattan, October 12 just got a lot interesting. K-State plays Colorado in Boulder.4.) Airline miles: What do I mean by airline miles? Folks are getting their money worth on travel in college athletics. Regionality is gone completely at this point. We already knew that with Cal and Stanford in the ACC and the Big 12 almost being coast to coast. But even Missouri State is making the jump to FBS and joining the Conference USA. They’re going to be in a league with both Delaware and Kennesaw State. 5.) Adrian: One of the best quarterbacks in the UFL has been former Kansas State quarterback Adrian Martinez. He is leading the Birmingham Stallions. Martinez is third in the league with 1,587 yards through the air and is also completing 60 percent of his passes for 14 touchdowns. He is also the leader with 487 yards on the ground.

Losers
1.) Gators: Topping the list has to be Billy Napier and Florida. They are being sued by now current Georgia quarterback Jaden Rashada over a failed NIL deal worth about $13 million. He ultimately did not attend college in Gainesville and signed with Arizona State before transferring to the Bulldogs. 2.) ACC: We knew that Florida State and Clemson were upset. They’re actively suing the conference in hopes of exiting. North Carolina may not be far behind. Boosters and supporters of the athletic department allowed their frustrations about league payouts be known on a public scale for the first time. 3.) Nebraska: Another school that has to be considered a loser this week is Nebraska. It’s incredible how far the Huskers have fallen as a program. The EA Sports ’25 video game is paying schools for their inclusion in the game, and they have separated them in four tiers according to AP Poll finishes the last 10 seasons. Nebraska is in the fourth and last tier. Ouch. K-State was in the second tier. 4.) Dead period: A basketball dead period is upon us. Kansas State basketball recruiting should fire back up on a more substantial note June 3. 5.) USC: On the heels of an 8-5 season overall and just 5-4 in the Pac-12, Lincoln Riley and the Trojans win total at the books is just 7.5. Winning nothing of significance with Caleb Williams, hanging onto defensive coordinator Alex Grinch for far too long, not splashing in the transfer portal and not even being a top 10 high school recruiting operation is not a great look for a coach that Oklahoma fans have nothing good to say about.
