Brooklyn Nets NBA2K25 ratings at bottom of the game

Yes, they are rebuilding and yes, their NBA2K25 ratings reflect that. There are some bright spots. Question is did they get it right? For sports fans across the nation, there is usually a period where we all start to get ready for what’s to come for our favorite teams and athletes, the World Series in baseball, the start of the NFL season in football ... and the release of the NBA2K ratings in basketball.
That may only be a slight exaggeration. The popularity of the game is such that basketball fans, particularly NBA fans, are starved for anything to keep their interest high still two full months away from even the preseason! Sure, we have the Olympics, but they’ll be over this weekend and as the Supreme Team rolls through the competition, the excitement just isn’t the same as the league. (Dennis Schroder MAY have something to say about that.)
So, for now, it’s about video games, not the real thing, and the ratings will have to suffice. And before the game officially comes out, there’s finding out what each player’s rating is going to be. Of course, the Nikola Jokics, Lebron James and the Stephen Currys of the basketball world will always be in the high 90s. That’s a given. The excitement comes with the ratings of young players who are looking to cement a legacy in the league. Who’s up, who’s down.
For Brooklyn Nets fans this year, it’s a balance. The Nets have a lot of young players — there are eight players younger than second year player Jalen Wilson, who won’t turn 24 till November — but they are also rebuilding. So, Brooklyn is, as of now, the lowest rated team in the game with no player in NBA2k25”s top 65 ratings. Overall, their rating is 79. The NBA champions Boston Celtics lead the league at 86. Despite that, the ratings raise some interesting points.
Cam vs. Mikal
There are some positives, most notably the comparison between Mikal Bridges and Cam Thomas. The two former teammates share the exact same rating at 83 in NBA2K25. Compared to last year’s edition of NBA 2K24, Bridges loses three points to his rating. On the flip side, Thomas rises seven notches up, one of the biggest jumps in the game. Last season, Bridges was an 86, Thomas a 76.
It was only right for game’s experts to raise Thomas number to the 80s. Thomas had a huge jump. His 11.9 point increase in scoring led the league and as we’ve noted, there only two players higher than him among the NBA’s top scorers and both of them were overall No. 1 picks. Now, he has become the No. 1 option on the Nets scoring end. That could also mean that his rating could still go up once the season is in its groove.
Bridges’ rating is a bit more complicated. Despite not being able to fully live up to expectations in Brooklyn, its hard to ignore the positives he brings to a team. A near 20 point per game scorer usually gets you a rating in the mid 80s, but because the Nets were below average and his performance tailed off as the season went on. that factored into what Bridges will be ... and on his new team, the Knicks, he won’t be close to the No. 1 option despite the haul of draft picks New York gave up for him.
Nic Claxton drops ... a point
There were a couple of other anomalies. Nic Claxton’s rating will also have an 83 coming into the year, down one from last season. His numbers dropped a bit, as did his team’s, but he’s likely to have a bigger role this season and he did just signa $100 million contract, but its just a game right!
Vets numbers drop as well
Of the Nets six veterans currently under contract — Cam Johnson (79), Dennis Schroder (79), Bojan Bogdanovic (78), Ben Simmons (77), Dorian Finney Smith (76) and Shake Milton (73), all but two of them dropped. Bogdanovic is down the most, four spots and Shake Milton three. Not surprising, Schroder jumped two following a positive post-deadline stint in Brooklyn and his international play. Curiously, Simmons jumped a point!
The kids are all right
There are positives beyond Cam Thomas’ jump, NBA2K25 has Jalen Wilson and Noah Clowney each up four to 72 and 74, Day’Ron Sharpe up three to 76 (the same rating as DFS) and newly acquired Ziaire Williams up two to 74. Trendon Watford who went from being cut by the Trail Blazers to getting a guaranteed deal with the Nets, dropped one to 75. Dariq Whitehead (71), Keon Johnson (70) and two-way Jaylen Martin (67) were all unchanged. Killian Hayes who is signed to an Exhibit 10 deal was not ranked.
