Airplane cabins are known for having reduced humidity and fluctuating temperatures that can leave skin dry and dull.
A steward took to Reddit’s Flight Attendants forum to share their skincare routine in response to another user asking for advice.
Posting under the handle Shades0fcool, they listed several factors that improved the condition of their “dehydrated” skin.
Before speaking to a beauty guru, they had tried swapping a “rough cleanser” for a softer milk-based product.
“This I liked, but then I went to Sephora, and the worker that always talks to me and knows my skin real well convinced me to use an oil cleanser to remove my makeup,” they said.
“At first I was skeptical I was afraid to break out.
“But I didn’t! It was really good and beneficial for my skin. It’s an oil cleanser by Jose Marian.”
Josie Maran’s Argan Cleansing Oil has a whopping 4.8-star rating on the brand’s website, where it costs $36.
The Redditor said they also began using Good Cera by Holika Holika after seeing the moisturizer recommended on the platform’s Asian Beauty forum.
Good Cera Super Ceramide cream is priced at $21.99 on Amazon.
It has an impressive 4.7-star rating from happy customers.
“Ceramides are amazing for your skin and I actually broke out way less with ceramides,” the Redditor said.
“The reason is because that’s an ingredient that balances out your skin’s moisture barrier.
“Your skin should have a pH level of 5.5 and ceramides help with that.”
What are ceramides?
According to Medical News Today, ceramides are a type of lipid molecule.
They contribute to skin health by making a barrier that locks in moisture and protects against harmful irritants and toxins.
The levels of ceramides in the body decline with age but can be boosted with topical treatments or dietary supplements.
The flight attendant said they use Sephora’s overnight mask infused with hyaluronic acid during pairings.
They’ve also cut out dairy from their diet because they have IBS and endometriosis.
Despite occasionally still having cheese on their pasta, they believe the dietary change has contributed to their skin health.
They listed other tips they swear by when frequently flying.
“Washing my face with cold water instead of hot water,” they said.
“Cold water keeps the moisture in.
“For a toner, I use a very gentle one now.
“Avoid salicylic acid.
“Exfoliate with exfoliators that don’t contain sugar or salt or any little pieces in them.
“They make little microscopic tears in our skin and dry skin cannot handle that.”
