May 31 official visitors Florida needs to make statement with
Next weekend, the Florida Gators will be hosting over a dozen juniors for the first round of official visits.
There has to be some interest from a prospect to schedule an official visit; however, that doesn’t mean the Gators don’t have significant ground to make up.
Below are two official visitors for the weekend of May 31 Florida needs to make a statement with.
4-star DL Myron Charles, Port Charlotte (Fla.) High
Florida State is trending heavily here, boasting odds of 92 percent in the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine. On3’s Steve Wiltfong and Seminoles insider Michael Langston recently logged picks for the ACC program as well.
As for the Gators, they have been in pursuit for over a year too. Now, they have the opportunity to set the bar with the first official visit. They have received two visits since the start of the year, and when speaking with GO in April, Charles said the SEC program boosted their chances as a top contender.
Defensive line coach Gerald Chatman, defensive coordinator Austin Armstrong and Billy Napier are all involved and making sure Charles knows he’s a priority. If the Gators fall short, it won’t be for the lack of effort.
However, the Seminoles have been the most consistent and check a number of boxes. That comfort level around Mike Norvell‘s staff is very high. Also, FSU receiving Charles’ final official visit might be too much to overcome. The Gators need to make a lasting impression next weekend.
4-star EDGE Javion Hilson, Cocoa (Fla.) — FLORIDA STATE COMMIT
Let’s stick with the Seminoles theme, as the 6-foot-3.5, 225-pound Hilson has been committed to them since January. Prior to that, he was in the University of Alabama’s class.
His recruitment, however, still features several other programs and official visits.
The Florida Gators will receive the first crack next weekend and were recently labeled as the third option behind Florida State and Texas, respectively. There is likely a large gap between Nos. 2 and 3 though.
Also, when you consider Hilton wants to see how Florida produces this fall, it’s not difficult to understand why the Gators are playing catch up. The Gators have arguably the toughest schedule in college football and will need some things to fall their way to produce the results desired.
A strong relationship with outside linebackers coach Mike Peterson is in place, while the Gators and Cocoa having the same defensive scheme stands out too. There needs to be more though.
That is why Florida needs to knock it out of the park with Hilson on May 31. It’s an important visit.
