It’s time to pay the piper for Brooklyn’s starting center. Nic Claxton will miss Wednesday’s game against the Oklahoma City Thunder due to suspension.
Joe Dumars, Executive Vice President of the NBA, announced the suspension on Tuesday afternoon, automatically triggered by Nic Claxton’s sixth Flagrant Foul point of the season...

Flagrant Foul “points” are straightforward; one point is given for a Flagrant 1, and two for a Flagrant 2.
While Claxton has not committed many egregious acts of late, amid a month of excellent play, he is now paying for his early season antics. Before the calendar flipped to 2025, Brooklyn’s starting center was ejected twice for a Flagrant Foul 2, one on Franz Wagner, and one on Dyson Daniels on Opening Night...

After that game, Claxton suggested “maybe I need to talk to a therapist or something,” though things have turned around for him in February. Over Brooklyn’s last ten games, in which they are 7-3, Clax is averaging 12/7/2 with 3.1 blocks per game, tops in the league over that span.
However, he was called for this Flagrant Foul 1 on Justin Champagnie in Monday’s loss to the Washington Wizards...
this is kind of an insane flagrant 1 call on Claxton to me.It's just really bad luck for Champagnie that Cam Johnson was falling (fouled) underneath him pic.twitter.com/twg2TJsiWF— Lucas Kaplan (@LucasKaplan_) February 25, 2025
He pushed Justin Champagnie in the back while going for a rebound, who then tripped over Cam Johnson in mid-air and took a scary fall (though he was luckily okay).
It is by far the least egregious of Claxton’s flagrant fouls this season, and while it is unclear if he and Brooklyn appealed Monday’s call, he may have built an unwanted reputation for himself, now leading the league in Flagrant Fouls.
Thus, the Brooklyn Nets will have an even steeper uphill battle than expected on Wednesday night, as they take on the 46-11 Oklahoma City Thunder. Both Chet Holmgren and Isaiah Hartenstein are expected to be available for the Western Conference leaders.
Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET.
