Miki Sudo wins 11th pink belt at Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest

She’s on a roll.
Reigning champ Miki Sudo held onto the women’s title at the annual Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest on Friday, throwing back 33 dogs in 10 minutes — a far cry from last year when she broke the women’s world record with an impressive 51 franks.
An slightly disappointed Sudo said after her big win that she “let the fans down a little” because she didn’t break her own record.
“For some reason, the buns felt larger today,” she added.

But she was still able to bask in her victory.
“I wasn’t the fastest out of the gate, but I’m known for my consistency so that really wasn’t a concern of mine,” she said. “I guess I refused to lose, I refuse to give up and when I do stumble, I get right back up so here we are for the 11th time!”
Sudo has scarfed down anywhere from 31 to her astounding 51 dogs since she started competing in Coney Island in 2014. In 2020, the frankfurter queen housed 48.5 franks and buns.

Her husband, also a competitive eater, said during the 10 minute competition that she looked a little nervous — or possibly overheated — before the timer started. The temp was about 80 degrees in Coney Island late Friday morning.
Michelle Lesco, who won in 2021 when Sudo couldn’t compete because she was pregnant, came in second this year with with 22.75 hot dogs and buns.
