Redditor Bigfrig posed the question to the social media platform.
“Help, is this salvageable?” they asked. “I dropped some mayo on it.
“I love this sweatshirt and stained it the first time wearing it (this is why I can’t have nice things).
“I rubbed blue dawn on it before washing on warm and that removed a good chunk of the stain but this is what’s left behind.
“I don’t know how to describe the texture of the fabric but on Lululemon’s website they say ‘matte, peach-fuzz finish.’ Any tips welcome.”
PRO-TIP
Other Redditors weighed in with their advice for getting out the grease stain.
“First, do not dry this in the dryer until you are certain the stain is out,” one advised.
“And with grease stains, you may not be able to tell it’s out when the garment is damp, so let it air-dry.”
The Redditor also included the steps they would take for the mayo mishap.
“Get it damp, and use a wet bar of soap to grind the soap into the fabric, then rinse.
“Alternately, I might rub a grease cutter (Lestoil, Simple Green, Dawn) into the stain and then rinse right away.
“Fill a bucket with water and OxiClean, and soak the garment for an hour.
“Spray with Shout or similar, and launder.
“I put garments with stains in a net bag so I don’t forget and throw them in the laundry.”
The original poster said they tried the step-by-step laundry tip and it worked on the stain, despite having dried it already.
“I’m so glad,” the Redditor replied.
“Grease stains are the hardest, and I’ve only recently discovered how well OxiClean does on them.”
Oxiclean is available on Amazon for $7.99.
The product promises to tackle tough “set-in” stains, giving clothes a new life.
The product can also be used as a cleaning agent around the house.
