Firefighter Injured In Blaze At 1-Story House In Aurora: FD

AURORA, IL — A firefighter was injured while helping extinguish a blaze Monday evening at a house in the 1400 block of Crestwood Drive, officials said. The firefighter was one of 29 personnel to respond to the second alarm at 7:35 p.m. He was removing a window when he injured his shoulder. He was hospitalized for treatment and later released, according to a news release from the Aurora Fire Department. One resident was home when the fire started and had evacuated by the time crews arrived, finding flames showing from the front corner of the one-story house. Firefighters launched an aggressive interior attack while other crews secured a water supply, deployed a backup hose line, and conducted ventilation, salvage and overhaul operations. Crews brought the fire under control within 22 minutes and fully extinguished it 31 minutes after the initial 911 call, officials said.No residents were injured. The house was deemed uninhabitable, and Victim Services and a board-up company were called in to help the resident, who is staying with family, officials said. ComEd and Nicor responded to secure utilities. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. "This incident shows how quickly a small fire can escalate, but our crews worked efficiently to stop it from spreading further," Aurora Fire Chief David McCabe said in a statement. "We're thankful there were no serious injuries and that the resident was able to get out safely."The article Firefighter Injured In Blaze At 1-Story House In Aurora: FD appeared first on Aurora, IL Patch.
