David Harbour says “Stranger Things” finale table read had everyone 'uncontrollably crying'

The final moments with the Upside Down may turn fans inside out.The Netflix hit Stranger Things will conclude with its fifth season next year, and star David Harbour is teasing that a table read of the series finale left the cast in emotional turmoil."The end of this episode when we were reading it, just us reading it, about halfway through, people started crying," Harbour said Thursday during a live taping of the Happy Sad Confused podcast at New York Comic Con, according to PEOPLE. "Then about the last 20 minutes, it was just uncontrollably crying, waves of different people."

The final eight episodes of Stranger Things will hit the streamer sometime in 2025, almost a decade after the show's 2016 premiere and three years after the last batch of season 4 episodes dropped.Harbour, 49, pointed to the show’s longevity as one reason for the outpouring of emotions from stars Millie Bobby Brown, Noah Schnapp, Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, and Caleb McLaughlin. "These kids, it was their childhood," he said. "They started the show when they were 11 and 12, and here we are reading [the finale]."Brown, who was 11 when the series premiered, is now 20 and married. Wolfhard was 12 and is now 21, Matarazzo was 13 and is now 22, and McLaughlin was 14 and is now 23.Schnapp, 11 when the show premiered and now 20, was the most overcome during the table read, Harbour said as he imitated the actor's loud sobs for the NYCC crowd .

"It's 10 years later, and we examine that idea, and it's so well done and so beautiful," he added. "They land the plane, and it is the best episode they've ever done."In other words, viewers are likely to be pleased with the show's resolution. "It's such a great episode, and it's such a great season," Harbour said. "You guys will love it."Stranger Things also stars Wynona Ryder, Matthew Modine, Joe Keery, and Maya Hawke.
