Contra Costans: Share Your Stories Of Loved Ones Lost To Past Wars

WALNUT CREEK, CA — Many residents from throughout Contra Costa County have a personal connection to Memorial Day, having lost a service member during wartime — be it a relative or a friend and be it World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Iraq War or the Afghanistan War.The city of Walnut Creek encourages such residents from Walnut Creek and throughout Contra Costa County to come forward this Memorial Day and share brief stories about these loved ones and the impact they made. Elected officials will read the narratives as part of the city's annual Memorial Day ceremony. Stories should submitted in an email sent to [email protected]. As submissions are received, Walnut Creek Mayor Loella Haskew will read each one."It will be an honor to read those personal stories about someone who has touched the lives of our residents," Haskew said. "We are looking forward to sharing those accounts with the broader Walnut Creek community."The Walnut Creek Memorial Day ceremony is from 11 a.m. to noon, Monday, May 27 at Civic Park, 1375 Civic Drive. Everyone is welcome to attend and pay respects to those who served our country and paid the ultimate sacrifice. Memorial Day is one of the city’s most cherished traditions. In addition to the readings, the Walnut Creek Concert Band will perform. The event will conclude across the street from Civic Park at the Veterans Memorial with a gathering and brief closing ceremony. The article Contra Costans: Share Your Stories Of Loved Ones Lost To Past Wars appeared first on Walnut Creek, CA Patch.
