Police Arrest Rifle-Toting Man Walking Around Clifton Neighborhood
CLIFTON, NJ — A man spotted walking around a Passaic County neighborhood while carrying a rifle and clad in camouflage was arrested by police Wednesday, authorities said. Police found the man around 3:10 p.m. in the area of Union Avenue and Sixth Street in Clifton, authorities said in a news release. When police arrived, the man — who still had a rifle strapped to his body — retreated inside his home, authorities said.According to police, the man eventually came outside still carrying the rifle. After making several "concerning statements," he went back inside his home, police said. The man, who was not identified by police, eventually surrendered and was taken to a local hospital for mental health treatment. authorities said. No one was injured during the incident, police said. While executing a search warrant at the man's home, police recovered several weapons and criminal charges were later filed.
