Kim Kardashian Condemns ICE Raids in Passionate Defense of Immigrants

By Marni Rose McFall

Kim Kardashian, the reality TV star and business mogul, has condemned Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids and defended immigrant communities in her hometown of Los Angeles.

"There HAS to be a BETTER way," the 44-year-old wrote in a post to her Instagram story.

Newsweek has reached out to a representative for Kardashian outside of regular working hours via email for comment.

Why It Matters
On Friday, protests broke out in parts of Los Angeles in response to numerous ICE raids throughout the California city, which has long been a flashpoint for debates over immigration policy. ICE has stepped up raids across the country as part of the Trump administration's pledge to carry out the largest mass deportations in the nation's history.

What To Know
"We're told that ICE exist to keep our country safe and remove violent criminals," Kardashian wrote to her 356 million Instagram followers.

"But when we witness innocent, hardworking people being ripped from their families in inhumane ways, we have to speak up."

Kardashian began pursuing a career in law in 2019, and has worked on criminal justice reform and clemency cases and has become a prominent advocate for prison reform.

In her message to her Instagram followers, she defended immigrant communities, writing "Growing up in LA, I've seen how deeply immigrants are woven into the fabric of this city."

"No matter where you fall politically, it's clear that our communities thrive because of the contributions of immigrants," she wrote.

Kim Kardashian is the daughter of Robert Kardashian, the lawyer who rose to fame for his role in the OJ Simpson murder case. The Kardashian family is originally Armenian, specifically Armenian Spiritual Christians from Kars Oblast.

Kim Kardashian's great-great grandfather was an Armenian immigrant who moved to the U.S. before the 1915 Armenian genocide, changing his names from Tatos to Thomas. He started a career in garbage collection before founding his own business, according to Ian Halperin's book Kardashian Dynasty: The Controversial Rise of America's Royal Family.

Today, the Kardashians are behind one of the most sophisticated and diversified personal brand empires in modern celebrity culture. Kim Kardashian was officially declared a billionaire by Forbes in 2021, and the magazine lists her current net worth as $1.7 billion.

Following her own statement about ICE, Kardashian shared a video of the artist Doechii, who criticized ICE while accepting her best female hip hop trophy at the 2025 BET Awards.

What People Are Saying
Kim Kardashian, on Instagram: "Growing up in LA, I've seen how deeply immigrants are woven into the fabric of this city.... They are our neighbors, friends, classmates, coworkers and family... We can't just turn a blind eye when fear and injustice keep people from living their lives freely and safely."

Doechii, at the BET Awards: "There are ruthless attacks that are creating fear and chaos in our communities in the name of law and order. Trump is using military forces to stop a protest, and I want y'all to consider what kind of government it appears to be when every time we exercise our democratic right to protest, the military is deployed against us. What type of government is that?"
